Need Help With Fender Flares

R

Ricker

The bed turned out great, its sitting in Black epoxy right now. I want to put some Bushwacker fender flares on the truck and paint them the same red body color. After looking at these to put on there is some rubber molding that goes between the flare and the bed side. Will epoxy stick to this or will it flake or crack. Can I skip putting the rubber piece in and some how use filler to smooth it out for a seamless transition or will this crack. Any ideas. How would you put these on. The rubber is black and I would like a seamless, smooth flow from the bed side to the flare.

Thanks,
Rick

Yeah, there might be a line that will show during temperature changes, paint it bright white maybe.

I called both and was told it made from "dyna-flex abs thermoplastic"
Lord Fusor said that I can use T121, a plastic to metal adhesive or their T21, which is an epoxy seam sealer/ adhesive.

Called lord fusor again after thinking whether or not I could apply the T121 over the SPI epoxy. T121 is recommended to be applied to bare metal. Being that the T21 is an epoxy this can be applied over the SPI epoxy with no problems. She said to ruff up the SPI epoxy, put a bead on the lip of the flare, put the flare on the fender, attach with the screws around the lip for the wheel well and wait for it to set up. After it sets up put a bead at the seam, smooth out like chaulk. Any other ideas???

I've used that Fusor product to bond fiberglass scoops onto metal hoods and used SPI epoxy on the bare metal first, then finished it off with traditional mat and resin to blend the scoop into the hood (over epoxy primer)-never seen a failure or any ghost lines. I haven't tried it with ABS. The Fusor tech sheet stressed that bare metal be primed with epoxy primer before the adhesive is applied and I often wonder if this (epoxy primer) would have been the cure all back in the 70's/80's when bonding on glass scoops was more common and failures were almost guaranteed when doing glass work directly to bare metal.

Lord Fusor sent me an email that also recommended their 116 plastic to metal adhesive. In the email they sent some pdf files of the 116, 121, and the t21. Only the t21 can be used directly over epoxy, so this is what I'll use. Thanks for the info Bob.
