My first blow in/repair on year old paint job. Have a few newbi questions.

I hope this is in the right sub-forum.

It's been a year plus since I opened my paint supply cabinet in anger and I forget a lot these days. I need a refresher course. I need to do some repairs to the wheel well lips and one deep chip on the rocker while I am making a mess.

My primers are all SPI and I used Universal clear. The paint is METALUX polyester base coat in Caspian Blue metallic.

I knocked some paint off the fender lips tweaking the car for tires that rub and its got outta hand when I was rolling the fender lips. No metal damage or gouging but I can see the metal, the paint edge is thin so I doubt I will need polyester filler once feathered.

Here is what I am thinking my steps will be:

Wipe down the fenders down with water borne
Sand and feather edges near chips or cracks.
Wet sand the clear with 800 (or?) up to a body line that I will use as a transition to hide the clear repair.
Spray some epoxy over the bare metal and enlarge / feather the area with epoxy primer. This may require more than one coat, so I will allow it time to off-gas.
Sand the primer to feather edges.

If the epoxy lays down well and the feather looks good after a day sitting I may just paint base right over that.
If it needs a bit more build I will spray a few coats of 2k and lightly wet sand with 800 and feather into the previously sanded clearcoat, I dont think I would need to epoxy over the 2k.

Here is where I get confused, should I just do a fade and let the color/ base only cover the primed repaired area or take that base coat up to the body line (I dont have a ton of paint but could get more obviously).

Initially the repair is tiny, so I dont know if I should spray base all the way up to the back mask that I will use for the clear, or just leave the base repair small and then do a larger spray up to a body line with the clear since the clear would leave an obvious repair line. (I am pretty sure the clear should be blended in an area that does not draw the eye to it.)

I hope this sounded less confusing to you than it does to me.

Gratuitous photo of my first paint job. Pic was taken yesterday, the paints got year + on it now. You can also see the wheels that caused me to damage my paint. I learned to paint on this car because I knew I would be jackin up the paint with burnouts anyways and I dont want to be the owner that's afraid to use a car because they are afraid it may get scratched... ;)

if its a metallic base I would try to blend it further out, if its a solid color and its the same can you used before use should be fine with just covering the repair area and clearing the whole panel. does it get stored inside or sit in the sun? if its only a year old paint job color shouldn't be faded yet.

800 wet sand works well for areas to be cleared but you might go 600 wet in areas that are to be painted if your not gonna use a sealer for adhesion

Thanks for the info, I'll look into the 600 for the painted areas if not the entire area. I'm guessing I'll just repaint the fenders from the hard edge line on down.
