Mustang that started it all

This is what got me started doing bodywork. My race car was painted in a guys garage and I sanded it in his driveway in the nice cool Florida sun in July. I watched him and at the time my dad had a used car lot so to save money I said I could paint the cars. The first thing I painted was a red chevy pu with lacquer than I started painting enamel. I quit in the early 80's and than decided to get back in it in 2004.

My race car in 1972 I quit racing it at the end of the 1974 season

I painted it white in my garage in 1992.

Rusty, do you still have those shoes? Are those of the shelf or did you paint them to match the car?

No I kept the car not the shoes. My mother at the time found all my red white and blue clothes.

The engine has been out a long time. Tomorrow I will take the bellhousing and starter to my engine builder so he can install it on his dyno Monday. Tuesday or Wednesday we should be making a few dyno pulls. The engine is for B/SA with cast iron heads and intake.

Rusty, I have only built one ford motor in my life and that was wife's 57 312 T bird.
Kid you not but i swear the rockers in that 428 are exactly the same as what was in the T-bird (1.7) until I changed to a roller or what they call a semi roller as the 57 solids are mushrooms, so you cannot do a full roller setup.
I just love that car of yours.

Rusty, I just brought home a 69 Mach 1 428 SCJ a few weeks ago. Will be my next project once I finish up the 67 :)

We did not have a very good dyno session. We only got to make three good pulls before the water brake broke on the dyno. The plan was to compare the stock Cobra Jet 735 with the Quick Fuel replacement. We made the three pulls with the 735. 493 HP, 500 HP and 502 HP all around 5900.

Love those ol' FE motors.

Do you think those halo girdles are a help? I was considering one for my engine but the opinions I was getting were pretty split on the subject.

I have (not so fond) memories of bolting up 2" Hooker headers to those 4 bolt exhaust ports. It was in a 1966 Fairlane GT and the shock towers didn't leave much room. Ages ago, 1970-71.

My engine builder/machinist seemed to like it.
