Mixing Machine Lids?

I have been purchasing Mixing Mate mixer/pour lids for my small collection of paints. They are roughly $20 a piece. I looked at some of the "agitator lids" made for mixing systems and they look very similar, just without a handle on them. Something like this..

Would it work to just cut off or adapt the "gear" on top and use a drill or hand crank? I can get them for about half the cost of the mixing mate.

mixing lids are for mixing banks. they do not stir up settled primers and such. the paddle will actually spin on the rod . heavy metallics have to be stirred first then put in the bank .
