Matte black mask lines

I plan on painting the dash and the interior sides of the doors matte black. The rest of the car will be white. The issue I'm contemplating is I will need to mask a number of areas such as where the dashboard meets the door jambs and the same thing on the doors in a number of areas. My thought is first to paint everything white, then sand the areas that get painted black with 400 or 600 and a finer grit like 1000 going out from the mask line. Then painting with the matte black. The problem is I won't be able to cut and buff into the matte at all so the mask line will sit proud and not look all that great. Any ideas?

We use a thin 3M tape configured as what I call a "pull off." Spray your last coat, then carefully pull the tape off. The edge of the paint will naturally round off a bit at that spot and give a smoother line than if you waited for it to dry. Also try not to get too much material buildup doing the matte finish. My typical is one coat of black epoxy 1:1:1, then two coats of SPI Matte Black. If you think you can get away without the epoxy (surface is very uniform and well prepped) that might be even better.

This is the stuff we've been using for 2-tones, which is essentially what you are doing:

On the door is there a door seal that can hide the seperation line between the 2? Trim piece on the pillar for the dash or kick panels that cover the edge of the jamb?

Thanks Crash, after reading your post I thought maybe I have a 6 mm wide roll of what you recommend. Turns out not. It is 233+. I will get a three-quarter inch role of what you recommend. Sounds like it is the best option and I will pull it off immediately after the 2nd coat as you recommend. Also my plan was to do the prep work and forgo the epoxy sealer because I thought I will have to deal with an additional layer of different paint that will run right up to the mask line.

LITJOHN, I had already looked at doing just as you say on the doors and running up to the weather strip where I can hide the mask line and do that in one maybe two spots. The others are too long of a distance and won't look right.

In some cases for the edge in different graphics elements a pin stripe is used. Don't know if you'd want that, just offering possibilities.
