Makita polisher issues

So my Makita polisher is about 13 years old and yesterday was the first time I have ever experienced any issues with it. Basically I plugged it in and nothing, so I took the handle apart and checked all the connections, then I cleaned the motor area and blew it all out with air, I think I sheep may have gotten into it honestly, lol. Anyways when I put it all back together it worked good for a few then for some odd reason it would only run if I laid it on its side. The second I rolled it flat in the horizontal position it would stop running.. Any ideas?

brushes. you will need new ones. they are worn out or hanging up not making contact. on the left and right side just fwd of the handle are the little black screw on covers. brushes are under them

Yes I did same thing with my Dewalt lol. Even made my own handle
Then I broke down and bought a new one and it was alot lighter..

Infact i fixed that thing like 3 times before I bought a new one for 150. Should had just paid the 150 the first time in hindsight

I know someone who wired a heavy duty extension cord into his polisher cord. Seemed to work ok. He was familiar with wiring tho.

well when i replaced my cord i put one on it that was about 15ft. was nice heavy extension cord. cut the female end off and wired it in. works great.

update... new bushing arrived finally. I installed them and now the damn thing only runs when I hold it upside down, lol!!

Ok be sure the brushes slide freely in the slot. They should basically fall right in in their own. If there is any resistance then its no good and you need to make sure the slot is nice and clean then you may have to take some sandpaper to the outside of the brush to loosen the tolerances. If the brushes are free and making contanct then you have another issue. Prob bad cord

i did the short cord on some of my tools . it does work well, your using an extension cord anyway .

Last night I finally had a second to look at the buffer. Turns out about an inch from the switch the power wire was broken internally. This was in the handle, after the the hold down clamp. The shielding itself had zero damage. It was really the strangest thing. But all is well now!
