I am working on a project for a guy. He supplied his own Diamont color and LIMCO 4100 clear. it mixes 4:1:1. Can I use SPI reducer with this clear?

Note: this clear was not my choice. But he scored it free along with the color and I am not using my own SPI stash on this nickle and dime job.

I tried to get him to fork over $100 for some SPI, but the whole "Well I got this free and it is a budget project" kept coming up, I wasnt wasting anymore energy on the topic.

to me, $100 aint shit if I KNOW im getting a product that is far superior in quality. But others just dont get it.

It was hard enough to get him to be creative with the paint job on this golf cart. I finally got him to spend some money on some addition colors so we could do a nice 2 tone scheme. Spruce it up abit.

I have noticed that the kind of customer who wants me to use his own supplies is the kind that will expect me to work for nothing, and probably want me do drive out to his place to price it out , as well as help him tow it in for free, too.

I won't use customer supplied material, period, unless they want to go to my jobber and buy what I specify over the counter. So far, nobody has taken me up on the offer. I think one guy went and priced it out, then came back and gave me the OK to do it my way, which actually saved him money since I have the required materials on hand and not by the quart or whatever.

It's just not worth the risk. For starters, it will be an unfamiliar material, which increases the chance for error, as well as usually being the bottom of the barrel quality-wise, which is not helpful either. And then guess who gets to be responsible for quality issues? The customer, or the poor guy who caved in and agreed to do something against his better judgement?

It's a golf cart for a good friend. It's really not a big deal about the clear. I just want the cart to look nice and he doesn't really care what it looks like.

I just take pride in what I do.

He didn't exactly supply. My other buddy donated the supplies from his dealership.

But ya, I totally agree. If this was his car I would say no, my choice in materials or find someone else.

It's really not a big deal. I planned on doing a test panel. If it doesn't work then he'll be forced to spend some money.

I've sprayed enough dc5100 I can't see this spraying much different.

This thread is void now. I looked at the container again, its LC4000, medium solid total junk clear from what I have read online. NO THANKS.

I have to bury a bunch of lines when I am doing the striping. I am using Universal.
