Lead seams

I’m a new member with a question about lead on the seams of older cars. After I epoxy the bare metal can I use filler over the seams to smooth everything out or would it be best to go ahead and remove the lead before I epoxy ? Can I remove the lead and weld up the seams ? Thanks

Main thing with lead is that if you sand it with regular aluminum oxide sandpaper it causes a form of corrosion, which is one reason why repainted and sometimes factory paint will show the seam. Here are a couple of threads that will give you some info.

And here are search results for "Lead".

Read through some and you'll get some answers. Personally I prefer lead to any sort of plastic filler. Welding up the joint, actually it's more like lap welding the joint, can result in ghosting (where you see the seam when the panel warms up in the sun) Read through the threads and it'll be clear.
