Land Rover Bumper Cover

I am repairing a 2021 Land Rover Range Rover with a OEM rear bumper cover and lift gate. The gate is fiber glass and looks to be primed. The cover also looks to be primed and just asking what is the best way to tell if the cover is primed to know how to refinish. Will sand a small spot to see what I get. Thank you Tom

It can be a little hard to tell sometimes, because a lot of bare bumpers are corona treated now which can make them look a little bit like a primed bumper. Sanding an inconspicuous spot (very fine, like 6-800) can help you tell if it's primed. Sometimes you can see the overspray on the back off the part, that's a dead giveaway. A close examination of the surface might reveal texture or even particles in the coating, which also indicates primed. Is there no sticker on the back?

It's hard to explain exactly how to tell, but like AAE says, plastic won't create dust the same way primer will, also the surface will look different if you scuff it wet. Bare plastic will not want to let water sheet well even when sanded, it will want to bead up more than a primed surface will. Partially this is something learned from experience. I suppose if you decide you can't tell, a coat of adpro would be best.

So hard to tell so will clean clean clean and then scuff paste and gray pad wash with clean water let dry good and SPI adpro then a coat of epoxy base and clear
