Iwata LPH-400 134LVX

I bought a Iwata LPH-400 134LVX orange tip spray gun. I have not received it yet but wanna know if anyone here has one or has used one and if so what can I expect? I've researched it and some are saying it requires a closer to panel spray as it has a tulip pattern. Just wanting some tips or advice. I do plan on practicing with it several times before putting it into use but don't want to use up too much paint doing so. Thanks
Forgot to mention it has a 1.3 cap.

I use the orange cap with a 1.3 for applying base (silver w/1.4 for clear) and it works very good. Each person develops their own techniques to get the desired results so mine is 3 full turns of the fluid open and the fan turned down 1-1 1/2 turns from fully open. Then with 20 working pounds at the gun inlet I spray the base. I found that an 80% overlap works best to get a nice wet coat that flows very flat. I shoot about 5" from the surface but I adjust on-the-fly for height and speed for what looks best. This is for spraying PPG Deltron base. I haven't used the orange for the clear though so I can't comment in it.

Thanks, I will practice with some thinned down rustoleum. I am sure I will have to develop my own technique but thought some others insight would be good also. Thanks for the advice Mike.

I have this gun in a 1.4 and it's kind of slow getting around on an overall job. It's a soft spray, speed with the 1.4 is what I'd call "deliberate". I run mine with the needle full pull, pattern wide open. I do spray close, it helps the speed some. I have the Iwata regulator which is the very same as the RTI regulator but it has Iwata's name on it. I run 100+ psi up to the gun regulator, Hi flow fittings, I run about 16 psi at the gun with the trigger pulled.

Use a sealer that goes with your color package, spray the sealer with this same gun. It helps you establish your passes, timing, overlap and gun distance for when it's time to shoot the base.

1.3 in this gun is going to be slow going with the clear. Prob fine for panel work but you will fight to sew your coat together wet getting around a whole car.
