Is there a need?

ive been told they help with the blend edge for buffing. y u against them?

I have always had good luck with just solvent. I usually use very slow reducer. I dont understand the ones with resin in them. What is the resin supposed to do? Now i do understand mixing a little of you catalyzed clear into the mix. The rm blender is like that. I just dont understand what an uncatalyzed resin in the mix is supposed to do. I personally want just the clear i am using to be on the panel when i am done.

its supposed to protect the edge of the blend when buffing. ive had hit or miss luck using reducer, but when i started using sikkens blender and matrixs, i stopped having that problem. one has resin, one doesnt.

If you are worried about activator going bad once opened why not make it available in smaller cans for those you need it?

A cost factor also not uncommon for shops to go through a case of UNV clear in a week or two and they always beat me up for activators in a gallon can, that is just to risky, saw Sikkens get burnt doing that years back and they sell to larger shops then I do.

Sik, blenders with resins are bad news and I will NEVER get involved, save that for the "scam artist companies" along with their flex agent.

!

I agree, a blending solvent with a resin in it is definately bad news, I remember when DuPont recomended adding 10% clear to their solvent and the blends would never work or last. IMO a blending solvent is for only one thing-to melt the dry edge of your clear and to completely evaporate out.

Barry, if you make a blending solvent I'll definately buy it but I'd hate to see it in aresol form.

Hmmm, intercoat in a can. That i could see being usefull as well. I would think a collision shop would use that alot also on small blends. The money saved just on pps cups would more than pay for the can.

pps cups? has anyone done the math on those? kinda like 3M's bondo gun.

Those cups are only a buck or so a piece and you can reuse them throughout the process. You don't need a fresh liner for each product.

I have been known to re-use he iwata cups but i've always asked myself if that defeats the purpose!
