I'm just gutted :(

Chris, they are with us for such a short time but show us what unconditional love is all about. So good to hear the a good news end of the story. Something rare in this year of sad news. Two of my grandchildren have tested positive for COVID-19 and are fathers of our three great-grandchildren. I am spending my time asking my invisible friend for help.

shewee what an emotional roller coaster this must have been for you. rather emotional reading through this thread, too. very glad ya got yer buddie back, chris. theres something about dogs. old chester down there- my hospice foster fail- is glad to hear the good news,,too

Happy thanksgiving!!!!

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes. Really overwhelming the response to this. :) "Patch" is doing great. Just about back to normal. Really thankful to God for bringing him back to me and my family and keeping him safe for over 48 hours in that pipe. Something like this happens, it really reminds you of what is important in life and what is not.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.:)

Figured I should share a pic of my "fat boy" post drain pipe.:)

Here's a pic of the buckshot that the Vet took out of just one of his legs. Vet also took three pieces out of his rear leg. Amazing that he could even make it to my home that morning.

Here's a couple of pics of the pipe. First is where he entered. I have no idea how he got in it, edges of the pipe have broken and are sitting in front of it.

Here is where he ended up. Main thing that stopped him was a root/stump that was about a foot high. We cut that and dug away some debris and he was able to get out.

And just cause I'm posting pics I'll share a pic of our newest rescue dog, "Lucy". She showed up one night summer of '19 and stole our hearts. She's a spitfire and has a lot of personality. She's Patch's best bud even though she's only a 1/3 his size. She's a hunter too. She loves to root out deer where they stay in a bottom on our land. Funniest thing to see two or three deer running and pint size Lucy giving chase. I don't let her go out at night much though, because we have a real coyote problem around here now. They are everywhere.

My dogs have taken over 2 of the 3 sofas in the living room.:)

Just now seeing all of this, glad everything worked out. I'm sorta stuck on the original part about your neighbor shooting up everyones dogs like he did. Honestly not sure how I would handle that but would have one hell of a time letting that go. My gut was he wandered over there again but this time got finished. Great knowing that wasn't the case.

Guy's a farmer with a lot of cattle. Supposedly the dogs were attacking a calf. At the time they were essentially strays. I was feeding them some but hadn't committed to taking them all in. So perhaps he was justified, perhaps not. Ive heard other stories from neighbors as well. I've known this guy a long time and I would not be surprised if he did it just because they were on his land. He can be a real son of a bitch sometimes.
If he did it now???? I would probably go to jail. I'll leave it at that.

Chris, our rescue pug Ellie (Eleanor Roosevelt Heine) died last year in the early hours of the day after Christmas.

Grief makes for strange decisions so we adopted a rescue from Puerto Rico. Apparently the dog flew first class based on the donation but she loves my wife to death. Me not so much. Even though I feed her and give her treats, her hackles go up and barks like I'm the guy who molested her in PR. She's the fastest dog I've seen outside of a Greyhound track, to the dismay of a squirrel who needed to make a 6-foot leap to the fence while Jasmine had to cover 50 feet from her hiding spot in the bananas.
