I sprayed universal clear with a Sata 1.2 with good results

I sprayed universal clear with a Sata 5000 rp 1.2 yesterday with good results, I talked with Barry and told him that the process was slower than I wished but the Sata performed flawlessly. I'm sure that a 1.3 will be much more suited for the clear but until I can find a deal on a 1.3 set up I will use the Iwata lph 400.

Some here including me have found Sata RP 1.3 nozzles were actually larger at about 1.5 plus!
Could be that 1.2 is actually larger? My guess is if you found the 1.2 slow, the 1.3 may be just right. I'm pretty sure Barry has a 1.4 Sata RP and said it's a real fire hose.
Where was the fluid needle adjusted out to on that 1.2?
ETA: Tried to find the posts where we discussed the nozzle size but I was unsuccessful.

I am pretty sure I had the fluid around 2-21/4 turns out and fan 90%.
I think that's about wide open or as far as the adjustment goes. It would be closer to 1-3/4 turns out (plus or minus) with the 1.3
One of the reasons I like the Sata RP is because it's faster. I never tried the Iwatas but I'm told they spray well but slow and deliberate.

Sata 5000 RP 1.3 sprays Universal perfectly. My settings, 1 1/2 -1 3/4 turns out, full fan, roughly 30 psi at the wall. No regulator on the gun, high flow couplings. 65-75% overlap. Move quickly.:p

Oh and for all you new guys to painting it's easier to spray quicker as opposed spraying slower. Holds true for base coats and clears.

No wonder mine matches factory peel effortlessly lol. I’m at around 2-2.25 turns out and 28/30 PSI and like you say, move at a pretty good pace. I’ll close it down to 1.75 turns and play with it next time I get a chance to paint.

I only used the 1.2 once where I was at a shop and they put me to paint a bumper cause the painter was too busy in the other spray booth.
