I've heard of mixing base with clear to make a little ss paint to do touch up...I got a place on the hinge side of a door jamb I got a little thin on color....if this will work, what is the mix ratio ? Ppg omni + spi clear..thx

Generally done when applying with a brush. Not for spraying. Works better for chips. Don't know that it will work for an area that is just thin. Especially if it is a metallic. It will not look right. Would actually look worse. Blending the area then clearing the panel is the only sure method.

That's how I paint under hood areas to make them somewhat OEM satin looking. I mix my base as recommended, and the clear as recommended, then mix them together 50/50. Seems to work fine. I am not doing this for projects that really need to match finish exactly, Just look fine to me.

Just to clarify, this doesn't make a "homemade SS," it just makes the basecoat stronger and shinier.
When touching up a BC/CC job, it's usually just best to do it in 2 steps, just like it was applied in the first place.
