Okay you guys so I had a thread about spraying my first time. I've got alot done go the doors fenders deck lid and passanger side of the car sprayed quarter panel jambs and all. Everything going grea t looks nice in.two coats of epoxy minus the dents;). But for now just stripping and protecting. When started out I had problems with Peel and solvents pops and now I lay the epoxy down nice and smooth. Well I decided to upgrade my epoxy only cheap gun. Read here and decided to give the vapor gun shine likes. But I got the 1.4 tip instead of the 1.8 he likes. I was laying it down previously with the cheap HF gun.(these are just gun for epoxy ;) ). Well now today I sprayed my firewall and I adjusted gun as normal (second gun I ever sprayed with) and I was expecting to lay down smooth as I did with the HF gun. But it came out once again with Peel. So I guess each gun has a learning curve.? I have the 2012 tech sheet and I reread Barry adjusting article now orange Peel is fluid adjustment. Is it to much or too little fluid. Has anyone used this gun and can chime I with some base adjusting points ere I can go from there?(hopefully shine can chime in) I was about full fan/2 1/2 turns fluid/ 48-50 psi.

Fluid should be 2-21/2 turns out.
Make sure regulator "at wall" is as high as it will go--very important with that gun.
Also that gun is made to hold 5-6" away from panel, will not work at 8-10 like a lot of guns.
Try 18-24 lbs with trigger pulled.

my gun is a 2.2 vaper. but remember i use epoxy as a build primer. laying it slick is not a concern . if you are using it a a sealer then use it like you would for color or clear.
48-50 is way too much pressure. i run around 30 with mine , fan wide open turned back 1 1 1/2 turn , fluid 3 turns. but again i'm going for build .

oh don't no why i said 1.8 tip i must have been lost posting that when i was at work.. i forgot you use 2.2. okay i will do ill try my settings with less psi and try to tune it just right. thank you guys not too concerned about it laying down really smooth but on the firewall i am because im leaving it like that engine bay going to be in black epoxy only

Lay the epoxy on the firewall, then "color" sand the peel out and shoot a reduced coat of epoxy over it to get it nice and flat. That is if you can't get it to lay flat in the first place.

thanks for advice guys S.O.F i have no reducer i need to buy some, but i ended up getting it down nice and im happy with the results. Here a pic of the plane old fire wall not going to smooth it out or nothing just leave it stock!

i can never upload an attachment it always says item too big so here a picture sorry guys.

Don't forget there's some areas that need to be seam sealed before your final coat of epoxy or paint goes on, it's best to apply the seam sealer over the epoxy then shoot another coat of epoxy before the paint goes on.

Yes I ordering some seam sealer to put in all the seams and places I spent time removing in. Is there a window to apply the seam sealer? And I was just going to apply the sealer and call it good but now u mentioned it I will shoot another coat of epoxy over. Thank you

Did a quick search answered my question. I will do a quick scuff with some 320 or some ed scuff pads and apply thank you uys. Thanks Bob for that tip I wassent going to spray another coat of epoxy over it

hey you guys so i stripped the trunk and blasted the pitted metal to clean up the rust the best i could got it looking good but still some discoloring of the metal. i covered 2 coats epoxy and i like how it turned out trunk was awkward to shoot. i have a question im going to spray the splatter paint from can i like the original look. but on the area were the metal was pitted should i do a skim of bondo and block it smooth or is the spatter paint thick enough to cover up the Pitts? here some pics the piece of cardboard is what im going to cut out and weld in a new patch from a floor piece i have. i have to do it when i tow to shop so i just blocked it off so i can cut weld and spot epoxy.
