Seems like the closer you are to a big city, the more the jobbers rely on the "Walmart" shops and the less they care about the small independent shops. I worked at a dealership body shop that ran $400,000-$500,000 a month. I ordered all the material and spent $35,000-$40,000 a month on average with Sherwin. (not my choice). They kissed my butt like you wouldn't believe, used me to sell accounts to other bodyshops, took me to lunch, gave me spray guns, etc, etc. When I opened my shop, I called the salesman and he set me up with everything I needed for no charge (initially) I know I wasn't getting the same discounts as the dealership I left, but they were still very good, and the service from the store, paint rep, and salesman were very good (initially). When the salesman got fired (he was awesome), everything went downhill to the point of now,(19 years later), I don't call them to order anything. Hard to believe my choices are limited with my little county growing up to have probably a hundred (just a guess) body shops, with 9 dealerships and several big franchises in my city alone.
