Ford black ua code vs SPI black base

I’m wondering about the differences between SPI black base and Ford’s ua black paint code? I have an 03 marauder that I wanna repaint black and would like to use all SPI products if possible. Just seems like it would be easier that way. Was planning to repaint everything, underside of trunk lid, hood and door jambs and misc. engine brackets. I have 3 vehicles with factory black paint. 2 Fords and 1 GM and parked side by side it all looks the same to me but are they? What’s the deal with black paint?

No that is how i test my black, 30 feet out at certain angle the ford will look gray shade and the chev brown shade.
Spi is a black black so only good for allover.

The formula I have for ua is absolutely full of different toners beside black. Looking at the formula you wouldn't think it would come out black. SPI's is much cleaner and will look deeper on the car. A good test would be to paint the gas lid with SPI then bolt it back on the car. This will really show you the difference, especially in the sun.

i can tell you a test panel isnt even necessary. the spi is so much blacker than any oem black its not even funny. i have compared the spi side by side to atleast half a dozen of the blackest blacks from a few of the majors as well as hok pure black base and the spi is blacker than any of them by a long shot.

Here is a wrecker I painted last September with SPI black and 6 coats of Euro 2020, I have a black Ford expedition paint code UA and there is no comparison with SPI black. Everybody here loves the black SPI base coat. This wrecker was faded out red and so I had to do all inside jambs and inner doors, I will be using Spi black on all jobs I can from now on.

That truck looks good. Ok I’m sold on the SPI black. I’m ok with it being a little different as I’m not restoring the car to original. Thanks for the info
