First paint job, have a dilemma

I want to change the color on my 92 Mustang. I'm going to change it to deep emerald green. pic included. I have an oil less 30Gal Compressor. It is a metallic color so I'm assuming it should be painted whole but with such a small compressor is the even a possibility? What are the chances that because its a dark color doing it in pieces wouldn't be so bad?

Is there a reason why you don't want to get a bigger compressor? None of the Major manufacturers market a LVLP gun. Only off brands, that should tell you something. Low volume and low pressure = small area. Probably would be okay for spot priming but not for an overall.

My first paint job was a jeep wrangler i did with an old craftsman 30gal ( I think) oil-less. It worked, just took forever. and after that the compressor blew the piston ring and piston cause of too much heat. So it could be done but at what cost...just save up and upgrade, im sure glad I did.

guess I'll be doing the epoxy and high build in pieces then borrow a compressor for BC/CC. Thanks for the input

Or hold trigger open & adjust fan width till you can maintain desired psi.
Not optimal but as you close fan down, cfm requirements also go way down.

If a "big" compressor is not available, you may be able to borrow another small one and hook them in parallel. Do you have a plan for moisture control?

Those craftsman oil less compressors are obnoxiously loud. You will need a very long air hose to maintain your sanity. The long hose will allow you to set up in the compressor in a neighbor's garage, or better yet, a friends garage in a different zip code.

Trying to accomplish anything without a decent air compressor and filtering system is a recipe for disaster. Primer, paint, clear, reducers and cleaners are not cheap and you will spend more in time and money over the long run when you have to respray the car because you aren't happy with the results. Ask me how I know this.

I agree, if you figure up what your are going to have in materials for a job, the cost of buying decent tools doesnt look so bad when you compare the two. While I already had a good compressor, one of the main reasons I bought a good gun was for this comparison alone. It seemed silly to spend all that money on the products required, and then turn around and spray them with a cheap gun.

Ever thought about renting something more suitable from a tool rental place?
That’s plan B I recently found the last place I worked at has a gas powered compressor on a trailer they’ll let me borrow when I’m ready.
