Epoxy question........

Ok, I know I'm gonna probably get destroyed for this, but I'll ask anyways.. So years ago I did a race car in black epoxy, and the owner loved the look and we just left it. Its a race car and it doesn't see much light(always down) and its help up well. He recently put a new hood on it and wants me to do some graphics on the cowl.

Now my question is can I flat clear directly on top of epoxy? What I would like to do is black epoxy the entire hood, let it sit for a week, mask off the cowl and do the graphics he wants, unmask, clear the entire deal and then sand and satin clear it so the shine is close to what the epoxy looks like.

Now I thought about using black base, but im not sure how the blacks from epoxy and the base compare. Any thought's?

Here is the car in question.

I think so, but I don't know if I understand you proposed process. If you are waiting a week, that means you are sanding the epoxy, and I don't know if I would directly clear sanded epoxy. So maybe stay in the window, or put a coat of epoxy down as sealer. Maybe not waiting as long to get the graphics done would be better, that way the epoxy would be in the window and not need sanding.

Tough one, it would work better than black base as it won't match.
Keep all painting within the 7-day window inc clearing.
Agree with the above do not clear over epoxy that is sanded.
Remember, you cannot sand and buff a Matt clear, so what you see dirt-wise is what you get.

Thanks for the replies guy. I'm gonna try to get him on board with the idea of the cowl shiny since some of the effects wont look right with a matte finish...
