Dynacorn is now applying a weld thru coating to some of its parts, even if they don't need welding such as a hood hinge.

They claim it is ready to paint primer.

Has anyone used a Dynacorn part and dealt with this great new coating?

Thx.

I removed it from the mustang quarters I just installed. It sands off easily with a da and 80 grit.

Funny how this new "feature" just seems to be a way of getting out of the expensive immersion e-coat process. I think it's crap, soluble crap at that which needs to come off.

You might want to also give it a solvent wash with thinner or reducer just to make sure it all comes off.

Bob, I claned them with ppg solvent w&g remover followed by SPI waterborne w&g remover. waited about 45 min and sprayed spi gray epoxy.

I received the first of too many parts that are coated with this crap from Dynacorn. 10 seconds with a lacquer thinner rag and a nice spot of bare metal appears.

What a marketing gimmick - not as good of a coating, it most likely costs them less to apply ( or why would they have switched?), and they jacked up the price of the items that have this crap on them.

So now the end user gets to pay more for less, and has to spend more time and $ to get rid of the coating.

Dam I love "progress".

So i am assuming I should sand as much of the black coating off the AMD Metal replacement panels I got for a 67 Camaro, too huh?

I think you'll find most people on this forum remove all the coating on any brand panel and start with all SPI epoxy. When you are doing a restoration and not collision work, it's worth the extra time to have the insurance of KNOWING you have a solid base.

Not saying that AMD or other companies product won't hold up, I don't have the equipment to test such a claim. I do trust SPI epoxy however, so I'll stick with that.
