I don't know if it's something for a novice to try unless you think you can get another on if you have to. I send my stuff out to a guy that does it all day long.

I hear ya. I know i'll never get it close to perfect, probably worse.
Maybe tomorrow i'll try for fun laying an inch of middle section in shallow something filled with epoxy for mold to back it up as i tap tap.
I'll wipe area with carnuba paste & wrap with thin food wrap just incase.
Epoxy i got is slow cure (days for full cure) & will cut your finger on cloth when cured. Doesn't smell either.

My projects getting put on pause cause house needs to be a home, not workshop for holiday guests coming in 10 days. My counter top has a square foot of open space lol.

i have limited experience with this but the last thing you want to do is hammer it. It will stretch the metal. I have seen it done by pressing slowly and carefully from the back to reshape it. Then using the same technique for body work. A skim coat of magic marker and flat file the front lightly and press again to pop out the low spots. Finally several sanding steps and off to the buffer wheel much like cutting and buffing paint

I had recently removed some dings in my Camaro trim. It's not to hard to do but does require a lot of time to work out dings using a trim anvil , file and sand with various grits before buffing it to a shine using compounds and specific wheels.
I've spent days removing rock dings on windshield post moldings only for the sake of keeping what came with the car originally before I go the reproduction route.
Here is a link to a You Tube video that I highly recommend if you want to see what's involved. He (Tony Cuda) has a 3 part series from start to finish.

Thanks all & boy he made that dent removal look easier then reality for novices.
My ding's on hold for now till i get house in order for fam coming in 1 week yikes.
This stainless is so thin it'll reshape with gentle pushes & taps & i won't be filing, sanding cause of thinness.
I just want it fair. Can't let it go w/o trying. Grocery getter which gets the wow already from spi clear. Best.
