Different clear ?

Like Crash, I was taught to do 50% overlap as well. Had the same issues, every once in a while especially at the end of a 12-14 hour day I'd get into trouble as well. If you are having issues with orange peel, it really helps. Speed up, reduce your material flow, overlap 75% and watch how much smoother it'll lay down. Crash calls it 25%, I think of it as 75% overlap, same thing though. Bonus is it is actually faster to spray a panel that way than with 50% overlap.(provided you speed up your passes) I actually almost never  get a run using this technique, whereas when I did 50% I would on occasion simply because you are moving slower trying to cover more area and sometimes lose your place.

I had to quit trying to do 50% overlap. For me that much overlap is too sensitive to travel speed especially. Now I do about 25%75% or so with around twice the travel speed, so it's like every area gets 4 lighter passes instead of 2 heavy ones, if you get my drift. The only thing to watch out for when doing 25%75% overlap and higher travel speed is that you have to start and end farther off the panel, the first and last pass are only hitting the panel with 25% of the fan.

Edited to fix my mistakes.
Don't you wish it was that easy to fix other mistakes?!

1/2 turn in from full open.
Back all the way out, squeeze trigger, screw in until it starts to lift trigger, release trigger and then 1/2 turn farther in. I adjust using air pressure from there.

For a 75% overlap are you doing this for everything you do or just clears? It seems like it would be easier to manage the lighter coats, how much are you reducing your fluid from say a 50 percent pass?

For me, no reduction in fluid, just an increase in speed.

Only reduce your fluid if you are having orange peel, or other heavy texture issues. I spray most base's with a 75% overlap as well. Candys, pearls, other midcoats all get the 75%.

Y'up, I'm gonna start trying. I feel like I naturally spray too fast, so maybe this will help me use that speed instead of trying to slow myself down all the time.
