Diamont Price

Just bought a pint of Diamont base from my jobber and WOW $ 144.00 !!! Color code is 590 Mars red on 2013 Mercedes. I use this most of the time and also Wanda. Have to do a rear cover and quarter panel , plus they recommend a white base under this color. I have lost $ on this material estimate. This is a customer pay not ins. pay. Just venting thanks

Why not Wanda or motobase? Cheaper and one thing for sure you are not going backwards in quality.

Whenever you do customer pay I always say you pay for the materials, what they are they are. If that is not good enough for them then too bad do it yourself. Insurance work also sucks on the material end you never make it, it almost always is a break even or costs you a little more but you learn how to recover the costs over time and even then you might just break even.

haha yeah thats about right for diamont. never buy diamont. i think they are trying to eliminate the line and force people over to water so they have slowly jacked the prices up to insane levels for the past 5 years. wanda is every bit as good as diamont and coverage is as good also and its 1/3 the cost. that pint in wanda would be about 40 bucks give or take.

Jim what is the difference between Wanda and Sikkens? They are both made by Akzo Nobel correct? If it's as good as you say (not doubting you just trying to understand) and as good as Sikkens (think you stated that before) then why the price difference?

wanda is the original sikkens autobase before the autobase plus.....so i am told. the difference is that wanda is not supported by akzo. it comes with no warranty or support of any kind. if you ask a akzo rep about it they will say, wanda, whats that? lol. any support comes from the jobber. autobase plus which is their premium line probably covers in 1 less coat.

Not sure if I understand your question Chad. But Onyx is RM low voc base coat original water base but now you have solvent also. I wish my jobber would mix this for us who don't have a mixing system. In southern PA so no VOC law here yet. Funny story was at Onyx school 2 years ago and during lunch the teacher let it slip that him and brother do some side work and use Onyx ( in Maryland voc law state ) and they will use a product called SPI clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only thing I know of was the original Diamont RM with the brown label, when I started seeing the Onyx I was told it was both water and solvent, that just kind of confused me

the Diamont line is by it self and Onyx is RM's low voc line, your right confused me also. Why don't they drop the Diamont line and just sell Onyx water and solvent and really charge us an outragest price.

The cost on diamont has shot up luke crazy over the past 6 years. To the point of being absurd. They are jacking the cost up to force people into the other lines.

2-4 years ago I get a call on a Saturday from a PPG rep he miss mixed the universal on a restro he was doing at home on the last coat (5th).
Long story real short he had been using it for about 10 years buying it from a jobber and jobber promised not to tell me or anyone.
Lots of dirty little secrets out there from sponsored race car groups to some reps.
All fine by me.
