DBC not available in the color I need

Hello all.
I’m new to the forum and my name is Rob.

I’m doing a 1971 Dodge Dart and I need some Mopar B3 blue base.
I want to use PPG DBC, but the supply house guy says he can’t mix the color in Deltron DBC. He’s got a mix formula for the color in their budget line (can’t remember the product name now) but I’m not keen on that.

The PPG code is 2018. It’s a light metallic blue and that was the number for their lacquer and enamel.

What do I do In a situation like this?

Thanks
Rob

If you must do it in PPG DBC, do a spray out of it in their budget line, and have the PPG lab create a custom formula or your local PPG jobber.

Sure, RM Diamont, Glasurit, Wanda, I'm sure others will chime in with names like Pro Spray, Metallux, Axalta, Standox, Spies, among others. Most major brand companies have an economy line, mid-range line, and a high-end line. Typically you can't go too far wrong with the top of the line from each company, other than their prices.

Rob you have got a lazy Jobber. Tell him you would appreciate it if he would call the PPG Tech Line and get a code for B3 (cross referenced from the old 2018 Ditzler Lacquer code) in DBC or DBU. If he won't do that find another Jobber. I know it's available in DBU because I painted one 15 or so years ago a Mopar B3 code in DBU. If it's available in DBU they have a formula for it in DBC. Nearly all (Dare I say all) of the older colors from the 60's and 70's are available in DBC. Especially Mopar colors. Since we switched from PPG to Axalta at work I no longer have access to PPG Paint Manager software, but I can run it through the Axalta software and get you a Chromabase number which you could take to your Jobber and have him cross references it. Stay tuned I'll get you some info.

Thanks Chris!
Much appreciated.

Well I did a little digging and came up with a couple of Axalta (Dupont) numbers. I then called the local PPG Jobber and gave them the numbers, got the same answer as you did, available in Omni but not in DBC. I still don't think this is 100% true. You may try contacting PPG directly and see if they can cross it over or provide you with a suitable match. I know at one time you could get that color in DBU. Motobase is a quality basecoat you may want to give Chad a call.
Here are the Axalta #'s,
