Compounds and glazes

i got the menzerna compound today and got to try it out. far too early to give any kind of report. seemed to work good though. its not super gritty which is great. i thought it was going to be more coarse than it was since its their coarsest compound. left a nice swirl free gloss which only needed a light polishing which i did with perfect it ex machine polish. kind of reminds me of the 3m perfect it compound i was using. as long as the scratches dont come back then im good with this stuff. says no fillers or silicones on the bottle. after i use this more ill give a better report.

i tried it out today with the orange, yellow and a wool pad. todays try i cant give too much info on. it did work well so far. the clear i was buffing was really fresh and soft so sanding scratches were deeper in that and i had to go light on the buffing. in that case the wool worked better today since it runs cooler than foam. it will take some time to see how this stuff works. definitely leaves a nice finish though. about 1000 times less gritty than presta super cut.

In my talks with hi end detailers and suppliers Sonax and Menzerna are top self. I have 2 of each Sonax 04-06 & 06-04 sample bottles, I might just get some Menzerna to give it a try too.

please do. compare your results and let us know. just looking at their products, it appears that 04-06 is a medium polish for a da buffer. what i the other one you have? their compound looks like its called cutmax. might try that next after this qt of menzerna is gone.

I love you guys. Good people here.

I bought/used/tried (small time) yellow, orange(nice), white(eh), black(nice), blue, red i squeezed(soft) & spun on some thick carnauba & said enough...i just buy groceries with it. My old foam was smooth, new is hex pattern. Smooth was nice.

Sprayed last friday, 4 heavy coats of universal, slowest activator, not much sun, cut/buffed couple days ago using orange & black, lowest speed, taking my time. Gets too hot for me turning quicker.
Used Meg 105 after reading about it & was closeout price local autoparts store.. Worked, dusty though. No final polish yet.
1000, 2000, 3000 blocked them.

I have the cguys trial pack, is it me or you have to use tons of it? I do love it's all water base whereas the Meg 205 polish isn't & i swear bites into fresh universal & splatter ain't coming off where it dried. I'll try the chem guys on these since it's small.
EDIT- v32 & 34 don't state combustable but v36 & 38 do! Not water base 36,38.

btw- small pads & this buffer are great for people with disabilities. One hand it & support self with other. Pad is 3.5 or 4"

i use very little. the build up on your pad is not what you want. use very little and keep the pad clean .

Thank you. Yes i over did it to make up for not enough time spent with 2000, 3000.
And hey- side of pad i gently used for narrow parts.

I just finished doing them all with v36 & black pad. Deeper but i don't have windex, yet.
Dillute it with distilled water? Bounty? I use old towels. Thinking wine glass micro micro fiber towel i bought for gift once. Zero fuzz. $15 for almost hand towel size.

you can rinse the pad with water then spin dry to get the water out. a damp pad works better than a dry one .

Try some Chemical Guys pad conditioner. It will help to reduce heating of the pads.

Thanks for pad cond tip & yes i use spray bottle when buffing body.
Disclaimer- i don't do this day in/out so heavy hitters here surely have better direction for thread title.
Got me to try what i had laying around though :) Looking forward to you guys comparing products.

Here's pad after quick wash & buffing all again with 36. You right Shine.

The pad conditioner used when buffing is a night and day differance. Without it compounds can feel grabby its it it just glides that is something you want to use with all compounding with a foam pad you will be surprised at how little compound you will use and how long you go before you need to reapply more compound.

I am waiting for an order to arrive and I will compare the CG'S, Sonex and Menzerna to see if there is any real differance.

Don't buff all the time either but I always wet pads first & spin them out. Pad conditioner sure sounds nice. Not just for job results, but anything to help not wear yourself out as fast will help get the job done.

Quick question for the chemical guys pads orange and black 6.5" wath backing plate you guys use,,i know i can get the qhite foam backing plate or the flex backing plate from chemical guys what you guys recomend

I actually wanted to add to this thread as well. I went through my qt of menzerna compound. very good stuff. I have waaay less of an issue with scratches coming back like I did with the 3m. I pretty much cut that by 90%. since that bottle is gone I decided to order a bottle of the sonax cutmax so I could compare. I haven't had a chance to use it enough to give an evaluation of it. I did try it and what I see right off the bat is it is way more watery than the menzerna. it actually dries up quicker on the surface. it seems there is less lubricant in it. that may be a good thing however. it may turn out to be an even cleaner compound to use and even less scratch filling but I don't want to say anything yet. because its more watery though and it dries up faster I do seem to use more than menzerna. the menzerna you could just keep working the panel and I feel like I need to keep applying the sonax. the sonax did seem to cut maybe a hair better as well but again...too soon to tell.

thats what i like about the v series. it does not dry out and make a mess. you dont get the dry buff you have to wipe it down with a rag.
