Colorsanding with Eagle DA paper

Menzerna 300 really doesn’t have that much cutting power compared to the 400, specially when you consider how much more dusting and shorter working time it has, not a very compelling product.
True dust some and drys .,,that’s why i order some 8 oz 400 ,,2500 and 3500 to try

the 300 is supposed to be a heavier cut than the 400.
It is heavier cut, but not by much. Plus you get a whole lot more dusting with it, I don’t like the cleanup afterwards.

Just this evening I tested a different brand of products on the side of a truck bed, it must have been a cheaply clearcoat on it because it was dieback city. I tested the 1500 Eagle Yellow discs, Assilex Peach (1500) and Green buflex and what I noticed is what a big difference it makes sanding clear that’s properly cured. No pigtails at all when the clear is not soft. This truck has been sitting for a while, some shop did a terrible mismatched paint job on it and now it’s at a better shop that will fix it properly.

Will green Buflex wet remove pigtails left by Tolex dry? I tried something different on the hood. Used the yellow 1000 disc dry to denib and remove the peel. Then I used a Tolex disc dry and ran over the 1000 grit finish, then used a new Tolex disc wet, then green Buflex wet. I could see the Tolex making pigtails when using it dry and kept cleaning the surface and wiping the disc off. Started with rotary and wool cutting pad and M105, then M205 on rotary using a polishing foam pad. I've pigtails and some marring, will the Buflex green disc remove these blemishes ?

there are 2 different ways to get pigtail. 1 is simply a dirty environment. you get dirt under the paper. can happen with a da or hand sanding. you need to be clean. the others you will see in the sanding dust and is from the paper loading. these usually arent a problem and arent leaving actual scratches in your clear UNLESS your clear is really fresh and soft. you will have a much easier time sanding and buffing if your clear is hardened up really good. how long you wait really depends on flash times, humidity level when you sprayed and temp. some clears you cand do in 24hrs and some take a few weeks. i really try to avoid sanding and buffing spi clears after 24hrs unless its been 90deg out and 90+% humidity. in most cases, during the summer months ill wait 3-4 days. in the winter 2 weeks but that doesnt always happen since i need to get the job done. winter the best thing to do is wait until spring but thats not always realistic.
