Clear coating single stage

OK. I've been experimenting with spraying SPI UV clear over unsanded single stage the next morning and I'm pretty happy. I mix only BC/CC so I have to go to the paint store to get SS. The closest is the BASF jobber and I've been experimenting with Limco Supreme Urethane. Should I travel further and get a "higher end" SS or can I stick with Limco. I know Limco BC is not very good but almost all SS is better than BC as far as durability and adhesion. In the past Limco SS reds, faded quickly and turned pink, is clearing with UV going to fix that? What are other folks spraying using the SS and clear method?

I have great pains in saying this but for about the same price look for Nason SS, it would be a good upgrade.
Utech would be another choice.
None are the best but in the price range.

I used to spray Utech 3.8 and really liked it. It was replaced by U500 and it's not as good but you are right better than Limco. I can get Utech almost as easy as Limco. Nason is just a long ride, they don't want to deliver unless you are "their" account (FinishMaster). PPG Jobber is also Valspar and that's a whole 'nother story as they say.

Well I got an opportunity to give it a shot and it worked great. I went with utech u500 and shot the last coat about 2pm and shot three coats of spi UV clear about 9:30 the next morning without sanding. It was really nice and deep. I almost never have fish eyes but I did have two on hood. Once it flashed off and was just past the stringing stage, I dropped one drop of clear in each. The next morning I wet sanded and buffed those two spots and done.

toothpicks are your friend :)

Yes my friend. Perfect paint jobs don't come from being perfect. They come from knowing how to fix your problems. Toothpicks, stick pins, and tape are always on had in the paintbooth. And tape ain't for just masking.
