chemical guys v series

dant

just tried v32, seems a bit harsh compared to 3m and 105. I do have 36 and 38 coming along with Lake country purple wool. Been using 3m wool. I have lake country yellow. Do you guys prefer wool or foam for compounding?

I bought a bottle of 105, I have used 3m for 20 years and always hated it. This forum seems to think it is re branded 3m. It does dust like 3m which I hate, Does not cut near as well as v32. It is better than 3m just did side by side this week. Not familiar with the 100. I think the 105 has fillers in it.

i know this isnt a compound comparison thread and you bought the cg compounds already BUT here is my input anyway.... per 68's recommendation i did buy a qt of m100. i have used 105 and the 100 is definately much better. its a newer compound and better tech i think. prior to that i was using sonax cutmax which i think is just still a hair better than m100 but its also more expensive. now i have moved on to 3d aca500. this compound is by far the best i have ever used. has some crazy ceramic abrasive in it that really makes a difference. its not gritty but it cuts fast and leaves a high gloss swirl free finish. just a quick polish after is all thats needed. great stuff but not cheap. its a little more reasonable by the gal.

Now you got me curious. Never heard of 3d aca500 compound. I am assuming you are referring the xtra cut? It would have to be very impressive for me to switch since it is more than twice the price of the M-100.

Yes i think it says xtra cut on the label. Aca500 is the compound and aca520 is the polish. Id your asking me if its worth the extra $, that depends on what you sand to. If your sanding to 8000 or something like that then it doesnt matter what your compound is at that point. Anything will work so i would say stick with the 100. If not then i say yes, its worth it although i hate buffing so any advantage for me is worth it. When your out of 100 give it try. You def wont be disappointed then if its not worth it to you, go back. Nothing lost really

Thanks for the replies but I should have been more specific : Jim, what brand of buffing pads are you using with the 3D products. I see they have their own line but was wondering what you are using. Thanks

( Sorry for hijacking your thread, dant. )

for foam i am using the hexlogic pads from cg, yellow for cut, blk for polish. for wool just a std wool cutting pad. brand varies. some are meguires some are lake country i think. just your basic tan twisted wool from autogeek where i get the 3d compound from.

ill add for those guys on a budget and just need to keep cost down then the m100 compound 68 is using is by far the best i have used for the money. it is good stuff. if an extra 20 bucks per qt doesnt bother you then i would rate these as #1 3d aca500, #2 sonax cutmax #3 meguires m100. the chemical guys compounds are ones that i have not tried at all so im not sure how those compare. a friend of mine had the heaviest cut stuff and it was really gritty which i dont like. gritty usually leaves a swirly finish that you need to work out with a mid grade polish then a fine polish to finish. i really dont want to do 3 steps. shine has recommended these for years but the other reason i havent used them is the packaging size. these are clearly meant for the car owner not a professional shop since they are only avail in i believe 16oz bottles for the largest size. why on earth would a shop or any professional who uses this stuff daily buy a product in those sizes. it should be available in qt or gallons.

@Jim C

Just making sure, but the 3 compounds you are recommending don't use fillers, correct? I got bit in the ass learning how the 3m stuff I had was definitely using fillers...pickup looked great for about a month, then swirls appeared.

I've been using Cutmax since you recommended it, as well as some of the CG stuff, and about 3 other products. Still don't think I'm good enough to really know the difference, but I'm slowly getting there.

Twisted wool on rotary with Meguiars M-100. Way better than anything else I have tried.
Follow with Lake Country white pad and CG V36 IF needed.
Menzerna 3800 Final Finish on LC black pad for ultimate clarity.

All on rotary? I've always loved my pneumatic rotary buffer.

all on rotary yes.

mitch, i have not had a problem with scratches coming back on any of these 3 compounds. cutmax is a great compound. you cant go wrong with that stuff. i think you will notice the 3d being slightly better though. not light years better but def better. the cutmax is more watery where the 3d is slightly thicker. about the same consistency as 3m perfect it purple bottle. the meguires m100 is really thick. you have to kind of shake that to the end of the bottle so you can squeeze it out. i thought it was a little too thick actually. its not a negative, just a preference of mine.

well cg32 is in the trash just too gritty. Back to the 105 which I am starting to like, with all the talk I want to get some 100. I do have CG36 and 38 coming so I will see if I like it better than 205.
