Cheap, easy and safe solution to block your car up

I've seen postings of cars blocked up on all kinds of things; cinder blocks, tree rounds, lord knows what.
I'm also good friends with a lady whose brother was killed when the car he was working on fell on him.
Serious stuff!

Here are some adjustable wood blocks that I made. They are cheap, easy and totally safe.

I hope that you find this helpful - and whatever you use - be safe!

Here is a top view of the short dimension:

Top view of long dimension. Note that a very wide tire can fit between the top boards.
And, the top section crossbeams are 4X4 - they carry the weight and are STRONG. The rest of the weight goes to the corners, which are essentially solid wood (wood stacked on wood - even if one splits the rest have integrity.)

1 1/2" x 3/8" lag bolts on the underside, and then countersunk holes on the top of each section to lock them and keep from sliding sideways.
Each section (except the top with 4X4) is 3" tall. Can be stacked to the height needed.

Selected the dimensions so that my jack stands will fit, if I need additional height. Again, 4X4 on the top row to carry weight out to the corners.

Here is the body on the blocks. Very stable. Very safe. And, whole car with frame and motor can (and will) sit safely on these.

I used 2 1/2" construction screws to connect the pieces. Luckily, I had enough scrap lumber laying around to make these. But even at today's prices, should be less than $100 to make a set.

Cheers! Let me know what you think.

Where do you work on the car? Can't be in that shop... :D
I know, what was I thinking? A buddy talked me into doing the epoxy paint on the floor. Sounded like a great idea and looked great when I first did it. Now I fuss over it, cover it when painting etc. And it still shows wear and tear. Probably should have left it bare cement . . .
Here are pics from when it was first done:

It was a good idea to insulate and sheetrock the whole thing. Pic of the thermometer on a 100 degree day, without AC.

Nice shop! Some of those Pittsburgh jack stands from Harbor Freight were recalled due to too much tolerance in the locking mechanism and can fail! Check your part numbers to be safe in the link below if you have not already. I have some like those that were not affected by the recall but i still dont trust them and use my old school Craftsmans when i am under a vehicle wrenching.

S*$t! You were right, mine are part of the recall. Taking them back for refund (not exchange) and getting better ones.
I've been under my 6K lb Suburban on those things, makes me shudder.
They really did look like good quality and sturdy, but the defect is subtle. Damn...
Anyway, thanks so much!

Nice catch!

i hate jack stands period . i use to use wheels welded together to set cars up on . works excellent if it still has tires . i had 4 old 10 in aluminum wheels that i kept for years .
