CAN'T STOP ORANGE PEEL

if it is not flat and smooth 6 in behind your fan it never will be .

I have always said a professional like you can set up your gun and spray a panel, then give you gun to someone who wants to learn and its not guaranteed things turn out the same. That is why clears are so finicky.

Universal is an awesome project, endless buffing window, not brittle hard, I have just yet to be able to see it sprayed on anything other than a chip where it does not need to get cut and buffed. Maybe the answer is just adding 4 ounces of retarder to the gallon and then using it 1:1.

When doing repair work with universal, I have to turn the pressure down to get enough texture to match factory finishes. Slick is in the eye of the beholder. Have a really good friend with a black show truck I painted 9 years ago that never got buffed. Painted in pieces, flow coated, and to 99% of the people it is slick, but I have tried to get him to let me buff it, but he won't. Size of the job makes a huge difference, as well. Easy to get a motorcycle tank slick, but a complete 57 Cadillac painted all at once is a whole different thing. I think any quality gun can be made to work. First sprayed universal with a supernova 1.3. Took a few jobs, but dialed it in pretty good. Then went to my old lph with a 1.3, worked well but had to slow down too much on a big job, and got more wave than I wanted. Ordered a 1.4 for the lph and pretty much have it dialed in to do what I want.
