Candy and pinstriping

I just painted some candy colored stripes (brandy wine) and I want to pinstripe the outline of them - am going to use a silver base coat - will the candy bleed into the pinstripe ? It’s been 24 hrs and I used some hardener in the candy. Do I need to clear coat the stripes first before pinstripes ?

you MUST clearcoat it. doesnt matter how long the candy sits to dry. it has to have a good barrier of clear over it to lock it down.

That’s what I thought - shot a coat over it tonight with the airbrush- good enough ? Cleared the car over 2 weeks ago and sanded it - sprayed the stripes yesterday - didn’t want to have to melt in a bunch of clear so I used the airbrush mainly along the edges where the pinstripe will be - should that be ok ? Car is gonna get 3 more coats of clear

it might be ok. just be sure that clear you airbrushed on is nice and cured before you stripe on it. give it 24-48 hrs. it needs to create enough of a barrier to keep the solvents from the striping paint from reaching the candy. if you just did one super thin coat of clear over the stripe edge then that may be too thin to create a good barrier. 3 nice coats however will be better. you'll only know be trying it

After I posted I decided to get the door jamb gun out and give it a good coat. I’ll be shooting 3 coats of clear this weekend. It should seamlessly blend with what I just shot shouldn’t it ?
