Body filler over spi epoxy

Hey guys need some advice, I have been working on a 65 mustang that you all finally talked me in to stripping to bare metal last summer, :)however I am so glad i did it and down to a few sections like the gas tank area and below velance area and passenger door. Anyway my question is I just sprayed 2 good coats of epoxy over bare metal on a front fender that needs body filler work and I am trying to stay in the 7 day window. The reason im asking is I can tell I will be cutting it close and is 24 hrs the correct time to wait before I can start applying body filler. Can you provide any guidance.

When shooting two coats of epoxy you will want to wait at least 24 hours before top coating or applying filler.
You shouldn't have any trouble getting the filler work done on the fender, unless you have very limited time to work on your vehicle.

Ok thanks to all, do yall prefere letting body filler cure overnight or sand in a couple of hours after its sandale. I know some people use body filler that shortens the wait time. I believe i can get this done on 7 seven days, I will still have to respray burn through spots where applying filler.

You can sand it as soon as it kicks over.

A little more detail on filler sanding: It's good to hit down the spreader marks and the "skin' on top of the filler while it is still a little soft, just minutes after application, just after it stops feeling overly sticky and when it loses gloss. Traditionally this would have been the point where a Sureform file "cheesegrater" would have been used. You have to be careful at this stage because if you go too far and hit the substrate it will tear off, but sanding early is a bodyman trick to getting faster, straighter results.

Barry that SPI white epoxy is awesome, I dont have a garage but the epoxy is still holding vibrant white finish. Everyone that sees the car think I painted it white and loves the color. I refuse to buy anyone's epoxy other than SPI , I will be getting with you guys on a primer recommendation after I finish this process. Its slow but Im happy with the way things are going. Im a newbee but getting er done. This epoxy is Bomb dot com. Thank guys for all your help, again

All, i just want to personally thank everyone who been there for me. At first i was kinda shame of posting these pictures but you never really know how much you guys have help people like myself and got me out of the woods. I have confessed to not be a professional painter but you all have put me on the right road and here's my car. When the weather's not to hot im working on the getting my engine running right so im doing dual projects.

Well, looks like i will end up outside of the 7day window, found out yesterday that my Upol Gold body filler went sour after a couple of years so I have to run and get some more. Any suggestions on a good body filler? than I can pick up from a local shop without having to order?

I like the Marson Platinum 01171 (not the plus). Spreads easy, sets up fairly quick and sands decent.
You might also pick up some Evercoat 1249 Plastik Honey. You can add a small amount to your filler to make it thinner/creamier for a skim coat.

no one locally close to me has the marson, just mostly EverCoat Rage and optima brand and some pro form thats nearby

Thanks Coronet, I called another jobber and he has one can left that he is transferring to a closer store tomorrow for pickup. It was 60 bucks and another jobber that has the evercoat was wanting 80 bucks or for their pockets, plus they said we dont carry Marson but we have the lower end stuff. Huh make you wonder

That's true metalman, and you get what you pay for. I wont be using any of that brand anymore. Now I understand why so many paint jobs fail after about a year or two, if it make it that long.

You can find the Marson online with free shipping for less than $50. It's easy for me to order better quality paint and supplies online and have them shipped to me (usually free) than it is to find a reasonably priced jobber in the area.
