Body filler on firewall questions.

I have to replace the firewall on my 65 Mustang and the new panel has a bunch of waves on the engine bay side through the trans tunnel area. I am not concerned about how the interior side looks, as it will be covered in sound/heat reducing material of some sort, TBD at a later date. I am not looking for show wining quality, but would like to flatten out some of the more pronounced waves. Firewall is striped to bare metal and waiting for better weather to apply SPI Epoxy. How well do body fillers hold up to engine bay heat? Or can I just build up the smaller waves with Epoxy??
Thanks!

I’m in the process of doing the same thing. I thought of using ‘lab metal’ putty which is cool because it’s sandable and can powder coat over it if you wanted (not for the firewall or course). Home Depot has ‘platinum patch’ and I’m curious to know if it could be used somewhat like bondo.

I was told to epoxy over sanded metal, then lightly sand for bondo to grab onto it.

No need to sand SPI epoxy when applying filler within the recoat window. The tech sheet is very useful and informative.
