Hello everyone,
First of all thank you to everyone who has posted in the past because I've learned a lot just reading in the last year.
I'm at the point of deciding on the color for my 72 cutlass convertible. So far car has been stripped to metal, spi epoxy, featherfill, more epoxy,2k spi, blocked many times etc, and is in 2k now. I will sand with 320 and shoot gray epoxy for sealer soon.
Initially I was going to go with a dark maroon metalic but do to difficulties of a smallish garage I thought it would be better to just go with spi medium or dark red and do it in 3 sections.
One problem is I haven't seen any cars in person in any spi red or have not seen any medium red pics online.the paint samples of red and medium red look very close as mentioned in a previous thread. Maybe a whole car pic would be easier to see difference.
So if someone has some pics of medium red cars and can post I would appreciate it.
As an alternative, I still am thinking about a dark maroon or black cherry/ brandywine color. I know I will have to paint whole car in one shot.also, I'm aware that most ? Black cherry colors are a candy /tricoat and I'm going to avoid that.
So maybe some of you have had good results with a standard base/clear in this color range? If so please post some pics with paint code. Also and maybe this is asking too much, but I would like to avoid any super expensive ppg or similar. Maybe Wanda or prospray? I'll be usng spi uv clear.
Last whole car I painted was a scirocco 14 years ago in a sunset orange metallic omni bc/cc which turned out well, but a much smaller (and easier to paint in my garage) car.
Thanks in advance, chris
