Black base

I vote for Red, White, and Blue (for patriotic reasons and I need a dark blue for my horse trailer :)) and of course the black we have all been waiting for.
Thank you Barry for all your hard work, listening to your customers and the time you take to answer the phone when I call for help.

It is a great idea but what happens with the way "we go to market", if say Chad as an example does not want the tint system because he has pro-spray and one of his customers wants a few colors?
If we were to ship the customer, I think with good reason, Chad would hire Cooter from shine to come to GA.

My thoughts on this are this, it's much easier to carry 10 toners to make colors from a system than it is to carry 15 colors.

I don't think I will ever get into stocking the colors other than maybe black or white because those not as popular colors tend to sit more, In fact I just burned up a gallon of spi white that's been sitting on the shelf since you quit making colors, but if it was a white toner that was to be used in a bunch of colors. it would most likely be gone. I also understand some of the complexity of this as well from the other side.

I also think it would fill a void in the market for someone like me. A lot of people come in to get single stage colors, and fwiw, the pro-spray single stages can be pretty costly, usually more than what it costs to mix the same color in base coat.

From your perspective of having to mix colors for call in orders may not be worth the hassle though, being a manufacturer it's probably not worth it. I mix and ship quite a bit and love doing so but i'm not in the same position as you. I think it would hurt production.

Black is a great start though!!! Maybe just a few top seller colors may be all that's feasible or practical, profitable... I look at HOK's new system and the colors look great but it may be a little overwhelming for the DIY's who probably make up a large portion of their sales-it'll be interesting to see what happens there.

Keep it simple is the key, just black white red and blue. Middle of the Pacific ocean blue with lots of nice metallic and pearl in it, The paint, not the ocean. lol.

I think, that is a good goal, I'm hoping to release the flat clear, white, and black base and SS at the same time.
This will be great as you know I painted my '31 with your Black SS and I am running low. Only a quart left and I still need to paint front fenders and the 6 wooden spook wheels.

This SS Black will it be the same tone as your previous SS Black?

Thanks for making the colors for us again.

it will be a little blacker, so your option is use new for cover coat on fenders and then go to old coat and use new on wheels.

My real goal here was to come up with a black that each batch would be same and I don't care what the majors say, their batches vary almost every time as remember i use to spray two different companies black every time I made a batch for adjustment and I saw this issue over and over a good black is hard to make, a crap black is no different then making a white.

Looks like I have accomplished my goal (at a cost) and now just doing a finale color adjustment.
the goal of no variance was the make or break deal if I was to come out again with a black, the shade of black was secondary as that is the easy part.

Bob,

How much does that mean "partial gallon"?

How much do you want for it?

Thanks
Tom

I tried putting the black drumb in photoshop right next to these pictures of my car. It was done with Prospray factory pack black and everything else SPI. Side by side, I can see the blue in the drum samples. I'm not sure on the blackness though. I think it is close. Thoughts? Rumble Seat.jpg

I think it is most likely impossible to compare a color taken by 2 different cameras , viewed on notoriously incorrect color monitors and truly be able to examine a color to the 9th degree.

I think Barry's black is going to be awesome :)

I get asked every day what color red this SPI red mustang is...... I just say it is RED!

I'm no photo shop expert but the picture was taken with a cell phone and down sized, so not so sure that would work.
Only two of the blacks have blue not sure amount in middle one but a slight amount and right side has 1 gram to a quart.
My guess is center one is also a gram or less.

It is a jpeg, so there is no trouble that way. Like SOF said, I'm sure it is a long shot trying to compare with different cameras and computer monitors. It's all I have to compare with right now and I just can't wait for the new SPI black. I have to do SOMETHING in the mean time!

Honestly, I am trying to figure out how much I am going to regret using Prospray after seeing the new SPI black. So far, I like the Prospray a lot, but I'm sure Barry's new black is going to be killer.

I vote for keeping it simple but I would love a fine silver as others have mentioned.

Years ago I was told pretty much the blackest black was toyota jet black.. So when I do an overall job or need black for mirrors etc.. I just ask for toyota jet black..
I compared the old black spi black with universal on a spray out card to that of a part I had shot with Pro Spray single stage Toyota Jet Black that was cleared with spi universal.. They are very close.. Very close.. You could easily blend one into the other, however they were different.. I think the pro spray had the blue tint everyone is talking about..

The spi black does not have a brown hue in the sun or by itself on a vehicle, but beside something with blue in it it almost appearted as such... Wild how your eyes see things based off background, lighting etc..

Im stoked for the black to come back ( AC/DC BACK IN BLACK!!!! ).. I hated it when Barry quit making it, but I understood why.. Ive got several black customer vehicles in the future that will don the newest version!!
