Black base

Ok, I get asked ten times a day and I have been working hard on the black base for about three months or more.

In the picture here is two coats, of the black base on each side of the iso drum over red.
Thursday I will tape up and in the center spray auto base plus black from sekkins and then clear the drum to decide what black I like best.
By the way, there is a "1 full gram" difference between the two blacks you see here to a quart.

Messy but fun! Blackbase.jpg

only 1 reply to this thread!!?!?

LOL. how bout the black ss!?!?

Awesome, glad to hear there's progress being made! I can see a difference between the two and unreal how one gram can make that change! It'll be interesting with the Sikkens on for comparison and all three cleared. Some Single stage would also be cool!

IMO the sikkens isn't what it used to be. Their factory packed jet black is better than the q140 toner.

Ford Code UA, bluer variant, is really the perfect black. Atleast in sikkens anyway.

I have the left over old crap used on sequoia, that you used on 67 vette.

Really nothing wrong, playing with a new tint and that is a learning process the biggest thing I'm going for is trying to make the black like the SPI red where every batch is exact and no variances, very hard to do on black but made up mind its not coming out until I accomplish that.
Close counts in horseshoes.

No need to reply -- our prayers have been answered. I guess Bubba and Cooter finally made it to SPI headquarters (do they know about GPS?).

Barry is making SPI black -- be very quiet and let the master work.

Yea, honestly If I had to do over, I would have used code UA. or went over with a quart of their JET black. The wanda deep black is "deeper" than the 140. They are all so close..but like you say close counts in horseshoes.

Or better yet, SS.

Not a great picture as had to have sun directly on it., none of the three would be an embarrassment for sure.black drum.jpg

Ha, I am going to have to trust you on this one Barry. My eyes were drawn to the right side of the barrel but it could be the angle, lighting or old age. LOL

Right side is the one everyone of us picked.
certain angle from left make the sikkens look brown.
Now will take that one and see if can fine tune some more.
