Best gun cup size?

I'm going to buy the deKups system. Was wondering if there was a favorite cup size. Debating on 24 oz vs 34 oz. DeKups suggests mixing in their cup and use the cup filter/strainer. In Barry's instructions, he says toss the filter. Should I be mixing in a separate mix cup and strain into the deKups? Or pour the products through a strainer into deKups and then mix?

As far as gun cup size, it really depends on what your needs are. If you spotting, small cups. If you are painting a panel, a bigger one. If you are painting a car, bigger yet. I think they make down to 9 oz. From there, they go up in size and its just a matter of how much paint you are going to use. I have used the Devilbiss DeKups and throw away the filters. I filter my paint into a jar, mix it, then let it sit while inducing. I let my SPI Epoxy induce much longer than the instructions say so I like to keep it in a jar with a lid on it.If I am mixing more than my gun cup will hold, I also use a jar with a lid on it. If I were going to induce a minimum amount of time, I might consider using the DeKups. When mixing in a jar, I dont filter it until it goes into the DeKups. If I were mixing it in the DeKups, I would filter the product as I pour it into the Dekup.

I have all three sizes. The most used is 24 Oz the 34 is big so it's hard to not bump when painting in tight spots. Also 34 oz of paint is heavy hard on hand and arm. I would recommend 24 .

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking about the 24 anyway. I think I will stick to mixing in cups. Sometimes it takes me a couple days to use the quart anyway. (epoxy).

I have never saw a tremendous advantage in saving the step of cleaning the gun cup. However, the advantage of using the liner cups for no leak is huge. With a liner cup, there is no leaking regardless of gun position. When you are spraying under dash or into hard to reach areas, the cup liner system is awesome and the only way to go. If the cost of liner cups is too high for your needs, you could also consider Devilbiss liner bags. They are solvent tolerant and provide a sealed system same as the liner cups, but much cheaper.

Just my opinion but cups, liners etc are just a waste of money. I can clean my stuff for less than the cost of the various cup systems.

I have not done enough of it to speak with a lot of experience, but I tend to agree with Chris on cleaning cups vs using liners. But, I do really like an option to use the cups when spraying in all positions and eliminating the drip from the top of the cap.

I have been using PPS and like being able to tip the gun at any angle. My new gun has a deKups adapter, so I will be switching over. Cost of cups for convenience is not an issue.

I use the 34 oz dekups a lot. I love that big cup for big sprays. (hate the weight but I love that capacity)

as far as mixing in the liner vs mixing in separate cup and straining, depends on where I'm at on the job. Most primers I'll mix in the liner unless it has an induction time, then I'll mix in bigger cups and keep refilling the liner as I spray. But when I get to sealer, color and clear, I mix in a cup and strain into the liner.
