Auto Rod Tech's Project Thread

Here's some progress we have been making on the LeMans.. I'll attach a before picture as well for those that may not have seen the actual build folder on this car.

Dam nice job Chad. Did you tig or mig the welds? I would think tig would take longer. I would have guessed that those parts were cut out on a plasma table.

I Mig welded the frame together, I did do some Tig welding on the front crossmember though. and it looks much better than the welds that were Mig welded, However It would be really hard for me to Tig weld all of the pieces on the truck, I would have had to been upside down and then operating a pedal would be difficult. Could have it been done? YES!! But it would have sure tested my patience..

As we were doing all of the grinding I was kind of wishing I assembled and welded the frame rails on the bench so I could have Tig welded it to make our lives easier.. But this was my first one doing this way so it was a little bit of a learning experience.. In previous frames I have done I just used 2x3 tubing, and I wanted a smoother looking frame than what I could have got with square tubing.

And yes this was cut on a Plasma table.

Now for a few update pics of the Impala.. We have all been really hard at it, should be for a interesting year, we should be have at least 3-4 projects finished this year, which is a big step considering some of them have been here for four years.

Thank you, and No I haven't bought one yet. I have a spot picked out for one in the basement if I ever decide to pull the trigger on one.. It's tempting for the smaller pieces we need on a regular basis.

Hey Chad , was looking at one of your threads in not so pro-touring the other day.

Do you do your own paint???:(

Yea we do pretty much everything other than rebuild engines/trans/interiors.

Painting is what got me into doing paint sales in the first place.

I was wondering how that was comming along. Very nice indeed
It's been sitting for a bit, but we have been hard at it. I am not sure how far we will go before we take a break. Today we did body work and sprayed epoxy on hood and trunk. Next week we will spray filler primer.. Our fingers are raw. hahaha.

Nice to see you posting something again Chad. Enjoyed looking at your posts in pro-touring when you were doing them, then I found them here & go to pro-touring a little less.

By the way, do you do your own painting?? :)

Man I almost forgot about that site.. It a site that cost a fair amount to be able to post on there for me since I have a business. I can't really post unless I pay a monthly subscription. I decided that it wasn't worth it for me to invest into... I don't think forums should cost much for a shop to post as there are so many.
