Atom Spray Guns

Has anyone had experience using the ATOM spray guns. Looking at the X27 HVLP with 1.4 for base and clear?

Dont know much about low volume low pressure, but its pretty amazing if it can get a 12" fan with 24-36 pounds of pressure. I am pretty sure its probably close to the old accuspray turbine guns that eventually got to be 3m's plastic gun. When those first came out, the usual 1/4" air fitting was converted into a garden hose size. I liked how they sprayed, industrial wise, very little fan very little overspray, what you sprayed got on parts. I just dont know how that works with the clear that needs so much atomization. I seemed to get better results going to a conventional pressure type gun.

I think they would probably be great for the primer, but so is that 3M plastic gun.

I was more interested in the HVLP which they claim is a SATA 5000 killer.

It looks like its definitely what they modeled their gun like, there are just SATA 5000 B RP Digital that claim they use high pressure technology, which most just consider a conventional spray gun.

"The "Super Speed" SATAjet 5000 B RP with its optimised high pressure technology for maximum application speed and minimum overspray."

So I dont know if SATA considers that a high volume low pressure. I was intrigued by low volume low pressure. To me that sounds like a graphics gun. I know the IWATA LPH 400 that is recommended here alot is considered HVLP, but the Devilbiss Tekna is not referred to as HVLP, but can choose between HVLP air caps and High Efficiency air caps.

People know I believe the painter makes the paint job, not the gun, so its finding something that works for you and hope you dont have 1500 worth of guns and still go out and end up buying copies.

Aren't those Atom guns shilled by the same guy on Youtube who used to shill Warwick guns? Can't remember his name but he sells an online course on how to paint your own car at home type of thing. I watched a couple of his youtube vids and wasn't a bit impressed. Get your knowledge here, and buy a real name brand gun - devilbiss, Iwata, Sata would probably be the best advice. The Atoms are Chinese manufacture I beleive.

Ever since I opened the link to that genie site, my mail sidebar keeps going to "asian and german technology".
Pretty sure the majority of car buyers are choosing asian or german cars when they can afford them. But I have said it before and it sticks here too, even if someone is assembling a paint gun here, they are most probably importing the parts that make the gun. I mean, SATA are Turkish guns, Devilbiss top guns are made in England, Iwata is Japan.

"The ATOM is designed in Dallas, TX, USA & manufactured in Asia."

The whole tariff deal is people bringing in parts that get assembled here that do not get tariffed, there is only a tariff on complete units. Thats why the big auto manufacturers have plants here with the rue of building in america, when the top jobs are all being paid to people overseas.

Everything we touch is pretty much manufactured overseas, at least the critical stuff.

Yeah, I dont know if its the same spinoff that amazon had, 50 cups for 65 with a hard cup that is not threaded but clipped on. Those are even cheaper for the 20 ounce size., like 50 less than the 16000 liners that you have to buy the cup separately. That genie site ends up like 80-90 for 50, so not as big a discount.
Either case, I am assuming since you get a hard cup each time it would not last thru 500 liners like the PPG cup, but I guess its worth finding out. I just keep hearing that PPG has this 2.0 style system that will seemingly make us start all over again.

I want to give this model (Atom X20 LVLP) and honest review based on my experience.

I purchased this gun in the Spring of 2018 where I used it once on a '94 F-150, all was good. A year later I shot a second vehicle and towards the end of the project, the inner seal/s started leaking. I was able to finish out the project, thankfully I only had vertical panels left to paint, otherwise, I would have gotten paint drops all over the place. I took very good care of the gun; cleaned it out thoroughly after each use, never dropped it and stored it in a climate-controlled environment.

Keep in mind these guns are made in the PRC (Peoples Republic of CHINA) and have no warranty. I found no customer support contact info on atomsprayguns.com or zoolaa.com. I wanted to see if a replacement seal kit was available. After contacting LABAP.com about this they informed me repair kits are not available and offered me 10% off my next purchase.

Bottom line is this. After barely shooting two cars the gun is useless. There is no warranty, no way to contact Atom, and no replacement parts are available. Also, as mentioned by another reviewer, the finish on this model has completely deteriorated after only cleaning with lacquer thinner.

If you want a spray gun that lasts, I recommend you spend a little extra money and purchase the SATA, IWATA, Devilbiss, or even an old Binks Model 7.

This is based on my own experience, other's may have better luck than I.

If you are going to paint a car and put a gun on the shelf for a year, there needs to be a few drops of oil put on the needle to both keep the point from rusting into the air cap and lubricate that seal.
They usually send a little one time use packet of lube with the guns that I am sure usually gets tossed.

That's a very good point that many newbs may not know, and I failed to mention that in my above post. I'm lucky to have a neighbor that's an airbrush artist for his entire adult life and under his advice, I did indeed lubricate the gun before putting away for storage. Maybe I just got unlucky and received a bad one? Just want to throw my $.02 out there for anyone that is thinking about purchasing an Atom X.

Yeah, that's right, the same guy who used to shill for the Warwicks is now pushing these Atom's.
