anybody try cromax mosaic base yet?

I have a show and tell clinic close by tomorrow, thinking about dropping by to check it out. Has anybody tried this stuff yet?

Supposed to be an improvement over cromax. Better hiding, supposed cost savings, still a 1:1 with a basemaker reducer.

I have a complete spray soon on a 69 Mach 1 I'm restoring for a customer. My customer chose a modern tri coat pearl white for the Mach 1. We are blocked to 220 on a spray poly, soon going in for SPI 2k which we will block to 500 then we'll be ready to seal and spray the color package. My choices locally are the Axalta line and Metalux. I plan to use PSI universal over which ever color package I go with.

Just curious if anyone here has tried mosaic yet.

I have used it, but in a very limited way.

I was helping a shop paint some MDF pieces, a life size mock up of a roller coaster ride of all things....

So this piece the size of the front end of say a Hummer was painted four different colors, all solids.

The basecoat laid down very nice and flat and I was able to tape for masking in about 20 minutes. Color hiding was decent I guess.

It mixes 1:2 with a dedicated reducer that must have some binder in it, milky looking stuff. Expensive as fkkk at $270.00 a gallon for fast reducer.

I wish I had a chance to spray some metallic with it, or at least something automotive related.

Color match I have heard its good, hiding I have heard mix opinions about it, specially with such weird mixing ratio and being a 'special' reducer.

I'm typing on my phone so I can't look up the name of the very talented man doing the wagon thread. I remember he painted a motorcycle tank and some parts with the Mosaic stuff. I hope he chimes in with better info than my two cents.

I have never seen it or used it but I do get a lot of tech calls and will say maybe one said it was good.
Speaking of tech calls, the basf custom system and the PPG custom system, I have heard nothing but good about them. (cost not included)
Here again, take my opinion like an opinion as my idea of custom is doing 3 coats of clear and re-clearing, the expert to pay attention to on this is JimC.

Thanks guys, I had been told it was just an upgrade from cromax and used basically the same basemaker, I guess I will see if I have time this afternoon to drop by their local showing/clinic.
