I was wandering if any of you guys have used the Devilbiss Tekna Clear coat gun? What are your thoughts and would you recommend it to others?

I was not impressed, the fan was impressive, went to the 1/2 inch air line all the way to the gun, still cut and buffed like crazy. The Iwata lph 400 sprayed nicer, that is what is mostly recommended here, I will let you know how the knock off gun goes when we get there.

It’s a bit of a hoser compared to the slower Iwatas, bit more overspray at the same PSI. If you like to spray close and fast I think you’d like it. I go back and forth between the WS400 the RP 5500 and the Tekna clearcoat gun. I regret selling my older W400, hell of a nice clear gun as well.

Right now the Tekna is my second favorite gun for speed and still lays down the clear slick enough, bit of a micro peel look to it.

OH Crap!!!
I have never used the gun but have heard nothing until now good things for a cheaper gun.
When asked i ask for budget and then recommend the Sata or Iwata and if out of budget the Tekna.
I need to change my tune, now!

Here is a YouTube review of the Tekna gun. There's a lot of spraying footage. At the end, he gives some thoughts.

I have an Iwata LPH 400 that I use for clear but it is not comfortable in my over sized hands, I sold my Sata 5000 rp because I am going to buy a new x5500 rp and just thought the Tekna Clear gun may get a spot on my bench. I spray a lot of base with a Tekna prolite and have no complaints at all with it, Thanks for the input guys.

I think alot of that video depends on what clear he is spraying and if its one of the clears that gets thinned. I dont know if anyone is thinning the universal clear and not just adding the hardener, but with the uc being heavier, I expect maybe the Tekna would be better if you were using a 4:1:1 clear. He kinda lost me when he made 6 passes over the crown of the hood, but I guess from the end he was adjusting the trigger pull.

He does something like an 85% overlap.

Well after much speculation I bought a new Sata 5000 rp to spray clear only, I had sold my other 5000 and was going to buy a X5500 but after talking with a lot of guys who have been spraying with them I went back to the 5000. I was considering the Devilbiss clear coat gun but I went with what I am used to spraying with. I know there are other great guns out there but the 5000 rp serves me very well.

I have a Tekna Copper gun, that I've used to spray SPI Black base and Universal Clear. I'm just a backyard novice with not much experience, but I liked the Copper gun so much, that I decided to buy the Tekna Clearcoat gun. I haven't used it yet, but I have a little job coming up in a few weeks and I'll let you know how it works for me.

I used the Tekna Copper a few times and it sprayed well, I was tempted to buy the clear coat gun but the 5000 is hard for me to get away from. I really wanted to buy the X5500 but some of the guys who have tried them were not as happy with them as they were the 5000, One guy told me he was having to spray slower than he did with the 5000 with the same set up, Uneven spray patterns and so on.
