AMD vs. Goodmark

B

Bob Hollinshead

I got two Nova quarters in today, Rt side is AMD and the Left is Goodmark, AMD is out of stock on the left and has no expected date for new stock. I had a good chance to look over the differences. First time I've used AMD. Panel thickness difference is big, Goodmark measured .039" and AMD is .047". I think the oem panels measure somewhere in the middle. The stamping in the doorjamb area is better on the goodmark but the overall quality-straightness goes to AMD. We'll see how they fit.

yes. I have a account with AMD and any time I have the opportunity that is who I order through.. All around better parts and better service as well.

I had no idea and always thought the goodmark was the one, now I know.
Thanks Bob

I've only used Dynacorn panels (though not for a Nova). Where do users rank their products?

I just got in a bed floor (complete), wheel tubs, filler panels, front bed panel & inner fenders for mine all amd. These are the only parts that aren't oem on the truck. I am impressed so far, I have only started prepping the floor. The packaging was very good (3 layers of thick cardboard) on the floor only one minor bend in one place. Way better front inners than the junk I bought 20 years ago, I think both didn't weigh as much as just one of these. I'm not overly worried with fitment as oem was horrible on these trucks anyways so I would be reworking them no matter what. Jegs does online price match & their freight was the cheapest.

Ever since the goodmark, keystone merger things haven't been the same.

Hit and miss has been my experience, I find they have parts that others don't at times.. I have a dynacorn cowl on it's way to me for a chevelle

I bought my first AMD panel when working on a 65 Buick and was impressed as well with the fit and quality. The floor panels were Goodmark and the center seam fit perfectly 3/4 of the way from the rear of car and then began drifting apart so at the firewall there was a gap of 1 1/2 inches. Ended up fabricating a patch and welding it in place.
The quarters on my 68 Dodge Coronet R/T were also Goodmark and the quality was very poor. The side marker lights holes were off nearly 3" from OEM and they were off from one side to the other. The body line on the passenger panel was running down hill towards the rear of the car and ended up 1/2" low of center at the side marker light hole. This had to be reworked and took some time.
The AMD panels are more money for sure but if they line up right and are consistent one to another the work and aggravation saved are worth the money IMHO.

From what I've heard AMD is the way to go. I have yet to hear a complaint but I haven't been looking really hard either. If you start adding up the Goodmark issues they seem to be things that should of never made it to production. The first run Chally fenders have issues with the fit of the headlight bezels and as mentioned the floor pan issues with the drain and belt mounts. I'm sure I'm leaving stuff off and others will chime in on. Not to mention they always miss their targets by a year(or it seems).

Now I have nothing against Goodmark and was glad they stepped up first. It just seems like AMD may have the quailty edge at this point. I heard somewhere Goodmark was going to or considering halting some Mopar metal. Did anyone else hear that ? Was that just a dirty rumor ? I myself find it hard to believe after the large investment they have into it. Thoughts anyone ?

To bad they don't do Ford stuff.
I have yet to buy any sheet metal for my 65 Mustang that is a good fit, correct gauge, and correct contours.
Example: it took 3 attempts to find a rt front apron section that fit right without a welder and a hammer.

I do not buy a lot of this kind of stuff but so far my experience hasn't been real good with any of it.
Rusty should have a real good idea of which brand for which panel for early Mustangs.
Glad to hear AMD is making decent parts. Maybe my next purchase will be a GM and I will try them out.

AMD and Goodmark both had fit and contour problems on the Nova quarter just in different areas LOL. The Goodmark decklid came in and felt a little flimsy when I testfitted it-they forgot to weld the skin to the inner! The goodmark tail panel wasn't the right contour and the tailamps didn't fit. The left doorskin was 1/8" shorter than the right. None of the lock cylinders fit and one door handle is a little crooked. Maybe I'm just picky? Still glad to have the aftermarket stuff available though.
