Air pressure

Ok so I am running a 7.5hp screw into drier and then into 120 gallon tank and 300ft of 1" pipe. I read in the tech sheets to set the compressor at max... I am running a big hose, and hvlp fittings... To this day I have not had a problem with the compressor set to 110 psi, it will crank to 150 but I rather not add wear or heat. I have never had a problem with air supply. I run my tip pressure around 16psi on hvlp guns.

16 PSI will work for base coat and no big deal what you set up at the wall. With the clears is a different story but it all depends on the spray gun you use as well. You could turn it up to 120-125 and see if you notice an improvement on how the clear sprays.

Every air system is different, mine I'm at about 22lbs with the LPH 1.4 for base give or take two pounds depending on base and color and clear 28lbs at the gun, trigger pulled.

Net results is all we care about so if your way works, don't change a thing, personally, I see problems with your set up like 16LBS at head??? Unless you have a gauge to measure sounds all wrong???

I have not switched to spi yet, I am shooting r&m clear. I cut it about 10-15% with reducer and it comes out really smooth. the basf rep dialed in the gun and the booth pressure at hose is about 22 and its about 16 at the air cap. I intend on making the switch to SPI on my next supply order, this is more about the system pressure, and upping the compressor, as I read in the notes about cranking it.
