A woman's project: 1968 Mustang Fastback Eleanor

Yesterday, we took off the hood and removed the nose (uuuugh) and pulled the engine (double uuuuugh). If anyone is interested in purchasing it, please let me know. Keith Craft is building us a 408w that should put out around 500/500 at the flywheel. We are going with the FAST EZ EFI 2.0 and Concept One Pulley's. I cannot WAIT to dress the engine bay to my liking :) Engine should arrive within 4-6 weeks. In the meantime, we are working on the brake lines and finishing up the wiring.

Looking at that tape is scaring me to death, never leave tape on a fresh paint job overnight a fresh paint job is after 90 days in sun and even then, I would not do it.
The call can be, why did my tape pull off the paint? My first question always is. Tape left on for how long?

About the tape Barry, what kind of tape can be used to protect a cured finish (over 90 days) when removing/installing parts which risk the paint being scratched/chipped? The tape we are using is the lowest adhesion, delicate surface 3M 2080. Thanks.

I missed the part about what was wrong with the engine. What a pain!

The engine was built for use with a power adder. In this case, a NOVI 2000. We were unable to get a suitable bracket kit that would work with the NOVI 2000, A/C, P/S and alternator AND clear the hood. I talked to Paxton and they advised me due to the tall deck height of a 351W, they do not recommend or sell the NOVI 2000 kit for the 351W. We were going to have Concept 1 built us a custom setup, but the price for a 1 off just was not worth it. We ended up selling the S/C kit and all of the EFI parts. So we now have a build long block with 8.9:1 compression. We talked to several engine builders, none who recommended only changing pistons, but instead wanted to go through the entire short block, not knowing who did the work and what was done. After comparing the cost difference, instead of doing the engine work, we decided just to start from scratch with a proven combination. Live and learn.

Yes! We sold our Green 71 Challenger when we came across this B5 Blue 71 Cuda. Here they are side by side before the Challenger was off to her new owner.

B5 is a great color. It looks good on any muscle MoPar, especially shaker-equipped E-bodies. Very nice car! 'Cudas are at the top of my list.

Really nice post showing the rebirth of a really nice Mustang. Looks absolutely stunning. I'm about an hour away from Summit racing, on the Pa side of Yo., Ohio I'll have to make the next gathering they have. That might be enough to get my juices flowing enough to do myself another project.

May not be a concern but its not the glue that is the problem, it is the solvent proof tape that causes the solvent to be forced back down and re-flow the paint.
I would never leave on overnight, even if paint is a year old as there is always a chance of things going south.

Thanks guys. Datec, definitely come out for the Mustang show. It really is worth it as long as the weather is nice.

Since we made so many modifications we had to have a custom set of brake lines made. We called Fine Lines which is a local company to us, and they offered to custom make a set of stainless steel lines for us. I think they turned out awesome. They also sell pre-bent kits in case anyone is interested.

Now she's ready for an engine.

Engine FINALLY arrived Monday night and we wasted no time on installing the Concept One pulley kit. What a beauty.

Looks like your gonna get some outstanding fuel economy ;). When is the Summit Mustang show? I was hoping to see it there.

Looks liker Wilwood could come up with something better for a reservoir lid bail, ROFLOL.

July 12th is the All Ford Show and July 25th is the Mustang Show. It won't be ready by then but you're welcome to swing by the house to see it. We're near the airport.

Ive been away from the forums for the last couple years with life but isn't this the car Rusty and his son built for you guys? Or is this another you have built since?

We have had lack of updates because we had a baby this summer! But, now that things have settled down, we've made a nice little play area for him in the garage and have had the chance to get back to the old girl. We installed the engine (when Lauren was 9 months pregnant - ha!) and this past weekend we put the transmission in. We're about finished up with the braided stainless fuel lines, and today we installed the BBK long tube headers.

Here is some eye candy!

Congrats to the both of you!!

My cars took a very serious long term break with my young kids. Glad you made your young fella his own area in the garage. I can't get my wife to go in my garage, not interested, so that option was out for me.

It'd be great to hear what you think of the Fast 2.0 after some miles. I've got the same kit to go onto my 462CJ (currently being built) for my 69 Mach 1 (also being built).

We have really fallen behind on updates, I'll bring you up to speed..

A few things to report: we swapped out the gold intake bolts for these polished ARP's.

Because we needed three temperature sensor locations and we only had 2 in the intake, we had to have a port machined in the billet thermostat housing. We put it in the bottom so it would be out of sight. This port will be for the temperature gauge.

We installed the BeCool module and are working on the condenser lines. The Old Air kit comes with hard lines, but because of the size of the radiator, we had to order flexible lines and move them further out in order to clear.

We had a local shop install the exhaust system and make the X-pipe out of stainless, they did a great job!

While the car is there, we had them fabricate the filler tube for the gas tank. They are finishing up the venting system now and then she will be back home.
