72 C10 progress

Excited to see some color! I use my base/clear gun to spray sealer. It's a Tekna copper with a 1.3 cap.

Hopefully this weekend the cab will have color and clear. Gonna clean and prep the booth real good tonight after work. This cab has been so time consuming getting all the body work done and prepped for paint. I can't wait to start working on any other panels other than the cab!

I can remember being at that point with my cab. There are so many odd areas to work on when doing a cab, especially when you do the inside.

Oh yeah, I remember all the time I spent on the cab. The most time-consuming body part for sure. Then, all of a sudden, it's painted and you're done bodyworking the cab!

I hope this weekend, all of a sudden it’s finally painted haha.

Every time I take the light around the cab, I always find some kind of imperfection that needs more work. My wife has a better eye than I do. She’s a natural. She keeps me in line and tells me what needs more work. Orange paint will be on this darn thing in the next few days. I’ll post some pics soon!

Shot some color today. Went pretty good. Had one small run on top of dash where it curves down to the face of the dash. So many curves and angles on the inside of the cab. I struggled a bit but finally found my rhythm. Tomorrow I will lay down some clear. This SPI Orange is insane. Def will take some getting use to. Will be a neck breaker driving down the road for sure.

Laid 3 coats of SPI Universal Clear down. It laid down really nice. Have a few dust nibs to polish out but really happy with how it turned out. I really like my new Tekna Prolite gun.

That looks pretty good. I found those areas to be some of the more difficult to spray, a couple good ones to check off the list.

The list is getting shorter your right. Still along ways to go. The rest of body will be a lot easier tho. So glad the interior is done. That sucked!! I completely under estimated the amount of materials it takes to tackle a project like this. Almost a quart of activator and quart of clear for just the interior. Guess I’ll be placing another order on Monday with SPI.

Practiced cut and buffing the dash tonight. First time doing it. Still have some swirl marks to work out on the dash. But looking better. I will start the exterior of cab painting tomorrow after work hopefully.

Finally got color and clear on cab. The lighting is terrible in this photo so doesn't do the clear justice. Really happy the cab is finished. Ill let it sit in sun tomorrow for a day and then try and polish some dust nibs out. This auto body work is no joke, I have so much respect for people in the trade. Hats off to you. I think I will work on the bed next to get it out of the way and back on the truck to free up some garage space.

Wow, that looks great. Make sure you share a couple sun shots tomorrow.

I think just about anyone who picks up from scratch and paints a vehicle to a high level will probably have a new found respect for the full timers. I know I did, I really enjoyed the challenge, but there were days I was totally shot.

Thanks. Its been a long 3 years with this truck and I'm getting to the point of exhaustion with it, but its also been the funnest project I've ever done. I am definitely a rookie with this auto body stuff. I absolutely love wiring and all the motor/drivetrain work. Thankfully, my good friends dad has pointed me in the right direction. He was the autobody teacher at WyoTech for many years and has been my mentor. This forum and all its members has also overwhelmed me with information, knowledge and inspiration as well. It's really cool being a novice painter and having it look the way it does. I must of picked the right color cause I cant stop staring at it. I'll post a few pics tomorrow in the sun. Can't wait.

Man, the way that orange catches the light on some of the curves.... I wanna see this color in person now!

That's awesome, good for you! Same gun I purchased, did you use it for both your basecoat and clear?

Still impressed with you paint booth too. You being an HVAC guy, I may be hitting you up for thoughts on a fan and possible booth configuration in the hopeful not too distant future. Thanks for sharing!

I Used my Tekna for both Base/Clear. It laid the clear down like glass. Very minimal orange peel. I was really impressed. Also used the DeKups paint cup system. Worked nice for painting upside down when I was doing the interior roof.
