454 engine

I have a 454 engine that has been sitting about 15 years, it was running when we took it out just smoked a lot. I have someone wanting it and was wondering if anyone had an idea of what a fair price would be? By the numbers on the block it's a 1972-78. Thanks.

They usually sell for $500 in this area as a rebuild-able core. If it has a forged crank and decent heads it could be worth more. Motorhomes and heavy trucks had forged cranks those years-everything else was cast. Mostlikely 781 or 049 heads-with 781's being the most common. Do you know what it was taken out of? Pull a valve cover and get the head casing numbers, the block casting number will tell ya if it's 2 or four bolt mains.

Thanks that will help. What I looked up by the number I found says its a 2 bolt but that's a far as I've got. We took it out of a 1984 chevy truck but it wasn't the original motor in that truck. The person that wants it is putting it in a 67 chevy he's building so its gonna get used.I was going to rebuild it and put it in something of my own but after 15years I think its time I wake up from my dream and let someone else put it to use.
