3M PPS 2.0 Questions

Here is what I hate about the dekups, you get a build up and when you are in a marathon of painting it can be annoying.

Yeah, the frames and lids get some paint on them, but wow! How did you get paint on the inside of the lids?
Here is mine after ~ 20 uses

Inside, you mean in the hole? I dont know, just husting in between coats. i mean i will say these lids and cups are all the way from 2012. I'll soak them every few months and clean them and theyll be like new, but lets say im running through a gallon of clear in one session, they are caked up by the end.

I was kinda of pushed into dekups, when I painted full time the shop used them and I had adapted my guns to them so I just started using them at home. I'm not saying they are a bad system, just little things I know I don't like about them. I'm almost certain they had a bad batch up cups recently in the 24oz size. I had a hell of time getting the lids to fasten on without pinching up the side of the liner. I think I went through 3 or 4 boxes of them with them like that, then all of a sudden the lids had a different finish on them(shinier) and boom they work good again.

I use the DeKups and work good for me as most of work is panel or panels but will wipe lids off after every use and new lids evey 6 months or so then old lids just for primer. And yes had a batch of poor fit if of the liner lids and liners.

I remember one time I left my cups and lids in the gun washer over night!! It took a few days for them to un-swell.

I have one of those cup systems. I think its an Amazon knock off. What I learned is it's not that great when doing an overall. Or spraying a bunch. It's great for a 10oz job and throw liner away and use about 2 oz of reducer to clean gun and done. When I paint a complete car I just assume use a big cup on the gun

I go thru stages myself. At the moment got aluminum cup on the lph. It is easy just tossing the cup. But cleaning it isn’t horrible either. It’s definitely nice not dropping a couple hundo to restock lids and liners!

I'm going to pick up a small pack of pps2 liners just to give them a try, but in the end I'll probably end up with an aluminum cup.

So what is the general consensus here, 3m PPO vs Dekups ?? Also it seems removing the filter is recommended ? Would removing the filter effect spraying positions ?? I would think the filter holds some fluid between gun and filter in upside down positions when spraying wheelwells, lower rockers etc. Thx.

I have only used the PPS. I understand that some see it as an unnecessary expense when a regular cup has worked forever. I like them because I don't need large cups, the 3&6 oz are perfect for me. I remove the filter and prefer to use a paper strainer. I like the ease of cleaning the insert between the intercoat, base and clear stages. I've been able to get the cups at a large discount by buying damaged boxes on Amazon. Product is perfect but the box isn't.

I use Dekups. Have not tried the 3M ones. There is no filter in Dekups. It will shoot at any angle no problem.

I like the 2.0 PPS cups. I have been using them with epoxy so far. I pull the screens out of the lid and use a strainer. Mainly cause I'm waiting a little longer than 30 mins between coats. I have the Dekups too, but like the 3M ones better. Hardest thing for me to remember is to turn the gun upside down and pull the trigger before removing the gun from the cup. You really only make that mistake once. LOL.

I have the PPS cup and adapter that came with the gun. Honestly, I did not like the way the cup twisted on the adapter. Full disclosure, I'm a rookie painter so take it for what it's worth. I thought the Dekups attached easier and better which I just got. Just my .02

Yup! I learned that lesson the hard way too!
