3M PPS 2.0 Questions

I just got a decent deal on a lph400 which is set up for the pps 2 cup system but no cups. My first question is is this a good set up and worth the money? I do like the idea of the disposable cups.
And second question, I see the cup come with built in filters, 220 or 125 micron. which one would I want? I've only shot the epoxy primer so far and it's recommended to remove internal strainers, will these cup filters cause any issues? Thanks

All the shops I know use pps. I’d have to ask them about the filters. I’m gonna pull the trigger myself soon. Just trying to find the cheapest place to get them. My buddy stocks up when our local jobber has a big sale once or twice a year.

I recently bought the Devilbiss DeKups starter kit, but haven't used it yet. So looking forward to the answers you get.
It is a bit intimidating using a system like this for the first time and being unsure what a proper setup is.
I took the leap with Devilbiss DeKups about a year ago. Love them! Super easy and the replacements are reasonable. No strainers like was mentioned on the pps units. You just pour the paint into the cup through a regular strainer, put the lid on and go. I'll never go back to cleaning paint cups again.

The 125's have blue lids. Those are for waterborne paints. It's often suggested, on this site, to remove that filter. To me, that makes sense because it makes it more like spraying from a regular cup. You can also spray at deeper angles. The clean up is easier but at a cost. I still use a mixing cup and stainer. At about a couple bucks a cup, I'm good with that.

I use the PPS cup system. The patent ran out on them I think, so other companies make the cup inserts. I ordered these last time and have used about half with no problems. Plus you get new hard cup and collar. I have always used them with the filter in the lid and haven't had any problems.

Thanks for the link Ksungela but This is set up for the pps2.
Since all I really have is the pps2 adaptor, I'm also looking at the deKup system or just a plain old tin cup.
I did find a post where Barry says to remove the filter, so that answers that.

Dekups are ok, I have been using them for about 10 years now I think. My only gripe with that is if you paint a lot the lid will cake up with paint/primer and can be a pain. I thought I saw that Devilbiss came out with a new system?

remove the filters from the lid when spraying any SPI product, they can cause a lot of problems. your product should be strained as they are being poured in the cup anyway. just cut a 1" slit in the center with a knife or flat head screwdriver, stick your finger through it and pull, it will come out quickly in one complete piece.

The PPS have a tab.

Well the seller made the decision for me. I just got it in the mail and he failed to mentioned it came with the pps2 cup setup too, not just the adopter, so I guess I'll get some liners and see how I like it.
Thanks for all your thoughts on the subject!

Well if you already got the cups and whatnot might as well stick with it unless there’s something you can’t stand about it. None of the different setups are “cheap” it is what it is. Small price to pay for convenience. Factor in a few extra bucks every time you spray. Everyone in my area runs pps whether it be 1 or 2.

Here is what I hate about the dekups, you get a build up and when you are in a marathon of painting it can be annoying.
