3m paltinum filler 01171 and 31131

Why not just mix glaze with the filler to make it smoother and a bit lighter?
I've been known to do that. Typically it will make the filler kick quicker, though. I don't use the honey but I have in the past. It's helpful for spreading a thin coat over larger areas. I think I would buy the honey if it came in a really small bottle, like 4 oz. The last one I bought ( a pint I think) went bad before I could use even half.

Evercoat and others make a "extender" which you can mix with either your glaze or filler to extend the work times. It's a really nice in the summer when glaze kicks off in about 30 seconds after you have mixed it. Nice for extending the working time of filler as well.
Here is the TDS for Evercoat Edge Sync. I think it's the same as Rage Ultra Xtra. The Edge Line is marketed towards Collision Shops and is slightly cheaper than regular Evercoat products.

I used platinum plus for over a decade and have been using the platinum select the last two years.

I like the select better. For me it sands easier, spreads better, and has less pinholes. For me it's almost opposite of Moparmuscles's experiences. Crazy how we each have different experiences using the same products.

I used to use the honey to make glaze and I hated that stuff. For me it would skin over and I would have to waste fresh sandpaper just to knock the inital skin off that plugged the paper instantly. Once through the skin it was fine but used a lot of 180 paper in the process. I just use platinum plus 31180 finish glaze over the platinum select and I'm happy.

I was actually sent a case of the 3M Select 31131 from 3M to demo for them. I used the whole case of Select 31131 and afterwards when contacted on what I thought about it, I told them I still preferred the Platinum Plus 01131 to it. Here is what I found to be the main differences.

The Select does spread a bit nicer, but outside the window, like overnight I found it to sand harder than the Platinum Plus filler. Also, I found as well as several shops in my area that the Select filler does have micro pinholes, and I don't get those in the Platinum Plus filler. I simply prefer the Platinum Plus. I also demo'ed the Rage Ultra, and found it to be almost like the Platinum plus, but it also sands harder next day or once outside the window plus it costs a bit more. My two favorite fillers are the Platinum Plus and the Rage Ultra. This was after demoing 16 different fillers over a 2 year time period. I usually don't select higher priced products, in many cases, but I did land back on the Platinum Plus 01131. Now with that said so you don't get confused 3M also makes a Platinum filler 01171, and I have not used that one. OFC, that came out before the Platinum Plus did. My understanding was Platinum Plus 01131 is a better version of the standard Platinum filler 01171.
Well I tried all 3 of 3m fillers 31131,01131 and 01171 and found moparmuscle response to be spot on as to his findings, I thought I'll pass along.

Body fillers are starting to be hard to come by as well. My local warehouses are all out of the 1131, not sure on the other ones.
