Hello its been a while. I was on the previous boards as form406. I have always used SPI epoxy for priming and blocking on metal and fiberglass and always sprayed base on wet reduced epoxy. Now its too cold to use epoxy (40-50 degrees) for me to spray larger pieces. I am spraying a fiberglass fairing using 2k for the first time. Scuff fairing, spray a couple coats of 2k, probably mild sanding and more 2k. It seems too cold to seal with reduced epoxy then base on top. Can i shoot base on top of wet (reduced?) 2k for superior adhesion like with epoxy? If not what options? thanks!

form, all our accounts are the same from the old forum software to the new one. if your having trouble logging in with your old acct then i remember having to just send a msg to dub so he could fix the login.

i would not use regular 2k as a wet on wet sealer. you can do it with the ski 2k sealer which is a 2k primer as well but it sprays much smoother. i believe the pigments and fillers are ground much finer in it. reduced 2k is going to be too gritty to give a smooth surface for the base. you can spray a very thin coat of epoxy if you want, then base and let sit overnight then clear. once the clear is hardened enough then bring the fairing into the heat for a week while it all cures.

i just bought a qt of the 2k. i have no sun for a while and its cold. reduced epoxy cures easier than straight epoxy. looks like ill just make sure its flashed good and use heat lamps. i was hoping to go straight to base from 2k. im going to be playing with graphics on the base

Spraying base over cured 2K primer is normal and what I normally do
Just make sure the 2K is cured before baseing over
because fresh 2K does shrink.
I prefer to let it sit 48 hours in warm temps.

Absolutely, like jim said you can work right on the 2k with no sealer required unless your doing a candy job and there is bodyfiller on the panel. In that case you need to

Thank you gentlemen. As i tend to over think things, stating your experience i greatfully appreciated. It will be getting black base with gold nd candy on top to match my tank
